Because I don’t GAF about statistics and demographics of NH classes. I GAF about ME. When I wasn’t getting a nibble and I had fulfilled all the “required” qualifications…while SPECIFIC individuals who did not, were hired….that will cause heartburn. I’m not speaking in generalizations….I can name at least 5 specific people I worked with who were hired a couple years before I was able to. The hiring environment USED to be brutal. Every interview was worth $1 million. When there are limited spots on the lifeboat…and you aren’t getting on….it’s not as easy to just “wish people well” and peacefully accept your career isn’t advancing because you happen to be born into a group that’s strongly represented already. This all changes when you are finally on the better side of the fence. I begrudge NOBODY their opportunity. I don’t GAF about who we hire as long as they are safe and I can stand them for 4 days.

Maybe I’m just too caught up in the “new orthodoxy”, but frankly it feels a lot like the old orthodoxy to me- show up, do your job, don’t be an a-hole, keep everyone safe, & leave it at work when you go home.

You can call it as you like, but being vilified for one’s “privilege” while also not actually advancing from it…..can lead to frustration. It’s like being a Black dude who can’t dance, or a gay dude with zero fashion sense. People make assumptions about you because of what you look like or where you came from….and yet it’s not actually true. (Intentionally stereotyping here to point out hypocrisy….in case that’s not painfully obvious)
In your case, there is enough quantifiable evidence to prove that you DO have that fashion sense (with your $800 work shoes), and that you’re also a pompous, judgmental narcissist gaslighter.
But you are clearly very intelligent and I wouldn’t expect an easy victory if it came down to a verbal sparring match. You do have a sharp wit.

Of course it’s happening. They wouldn’t require you to put down your race/ethnicity on the damn app. Why would that matter? Because you receive more points for it, end of story. I’m black and I know that helped me get hired at Delta. That’s why I’m well liked by others, I don’t lie to myself like some of these softies in the comments. I also made my way to Delta by passing upgrade training at SkyWest and new hire training at spirit adding another type with success. 2022 was a great year for me.
I personally can’t stand my fellow minority pilots who live in denial and act like they didn’t have an easier path. I find them pathetic tbh. Still have to pass training events, still have to pass the interview, but don’t act like everyone else doesn’t have to put in that work and then some.

So now that degrees aren’t required, I think we have narrowed it down to white F-15 pilots = loser. I would have liked to have flown an F-15. Where do I send my reparations check? Also, is it ok to still like the Airplane jive quotes or…? Do other career paths have this same kind of thread? Police. Yeah, probably them.
Wow folks. The threat is low experience. I feel a lot of fear in this thread. Time to start demonstrating that superior aviation ability in front of our newhire generation. It’s up to us to ultimately show the next generation how it’s done right. Not only are newhire requirements coming down—upgrades are going junior. Put both in the seats at the same time and we have a bigger issue than race ever was! Let’s execute that FAR requirement of “good moral character.” At least I will try to do that while I’m rollin’ coal at WN. I bet a bunch of you drive them damn Hyundais anyway.
