Age 67
#123
A lot of those lost most of their pension benefits or were furloughed during the lost decade. They welcomed age 65. Those at the front end who turned 60 right before the change were the ones who got shafted. A good friend was mandatory retired after losing most of his pension. Then age 65 kicked in when he was age 60 and 2 months.

There were 3 lawsuits over age 60 in the court system at the time. With the FAA agreeing it was now safe for pilots to fly in the US to 65 those court cases were now stone cold losers.
ALPA could have continued to oppose 65 and have a judge rule which best case would have been 65 or worst case no age limit and retired pilots allowed back. Instead they did the smart thing and worked with Congress and the FAA to craft legislation allowing 65 with no retired returns preempting the court cases. Sometimes you need to be smart and not push a 100% lost cause.

If a new age is passed one thing will be for certain, there will eventually be pilots working at age 65-67 while pilots are on furlough.

The Age 67 crowd sure has a strange way to win allies and influence votes of the vast majority of us who are against it.
I don't get why every thread tangentially related to Age 67 devolves into the ones in favor shouting, stomping, whining, insulting, doxxing, and threatening those who disagree, or crying crocodile tears about "discrimination" which they suddenly discovered after a whole career of being fine with mandatory retirement when it benefited them.
It's a money grab by those at the top. Pure and simple. Call it anything else and you're a liar.
