Random question. Anyone ever get a TMAAT question they didn’t have an answer for? I don’t know why but it’s the only thing that worries me about that interview.

Yea, and honestly….you can just make up a story. Obviously make it plausible and try to at least base it on something that really happened (like a historical fiction) but otherwise how will they know that xyz situation actually happened or not?

I can’t stand the TMAAT questions. It makes the interview feel like a silly game. I much prefer just going in and nailing technical questions.

I’d recommend Emerald Coast. Don’t quote me on the specifics but I believe Emerald Coast says that are 14 basic subject areas where TMAATS can come from. If you take the course, they cover this in great detail. They also recommend you have 2 stories for each type of question. After taking the course and their zoom sessions you get really good at categorizing each TMAAT so that you can access the best story from your database to fit the question.

It gives them a look into your mind and your decision making process. People make the mistake of trying to remember (or make up) the wild stories that will have the interviewers hanging on the edge of their seats in suspense. That’s not what they’re looking for.

Especially if you’re going to go the route of making up a story - keep it simple, use the STAR format to keep it organized and easy to follow, and demonstrate your decision making process.

Tech questions are importantly, but even the smartest pilot in the room is useless if they can’t apply that knowledge in a rational and logical way. That’s where TMAAT comes into play.

Not all advise is good advice, such as…

”make it plausible” “historical fiction”..??? I suggest being honest. As someone mentioned, Emerald Coast (who I used) gives a good framework to develop your TMAATs in a way to cover various forms of various questions. I had a question I couldn’t answer and I reframed the question slightly and gave them my story - essentially I told them, I’ve never experienced X, but I once experienced Y, which is very similar, and this is what happened…

Making stuff up probably gets you on a path you don’t want to go down and could result in

Don’t worry if you try and don’t, They’ll stop you mid sentence and tell you that what you’ve given them isn’t what they’re looking for.

I’ve heard that you get one question you can pass on, but that info is from a few years old when they were casting a wide hiring net. I don’t know anyone that has interviewed under the new pilot hiring regime.

Ideally the interview prep company that you’ve hired to help you get hired should make it so you’re well prepared for an interview and there aren’t many surprises.

Please DO NOT make up stories. TMAAT is all about who you are as they evaluate core competencies.

”TMAAT you didn’t get along with a CA/Crew member”
- Conflict resolution

”TMAAT you went above and beyond for a passenger”
- Customer Service

They don’t care about having some crazy story. They want to know which core competencies you have.

If you genuinely don’t have one, don’t make it up. They’re trained to sniff the BS. Just be honest and say you don’t have a specific story for that particular TMAAT question.

This is where prep companies are worth their weight in gold. Spend the money and prep.

I would also add that with TMAAT, only share ones that have good endings. For example with conflict resolution…you probably don’t want to share the one that resulted in you or them calling pro stands or if involving a customer calling the police.
While you are the protagonist in every story, there can be no Bad Guys.
So Emerald Coast suggest having a database of stories that you can easily recollect and have told them out loud before.
Yes,use the Situation Task Action Result (STAR) chronological order.
What you don’t want to do is get trapped and to have to think really hard of a story that fits the question exactly but doesn’t have a very good ending and wont accentuate your good qualities.
