Interview/Hiring Updates
#781
Interviewed yesterday and I think it went ok. It felt friendlier than my interview last year. We were told the hiring numbers and rates keep increasing; now they want 200 a month starting September. When I asked at the end of my interview if a Nov or Dec class date would be reasonable to expect, the pilot told me to expect even sooner. They're trying to target as little as 30 to 60 days interview to class. We were also told they're trying to give some priority to Spirit pilots.
6 people in my interview group, 4 from Spirit. 2 captains and 2 downgraded FOs. They other 2 were a Kalitta 747 pilot (don't know which seat) and an 8 year regional captain.

I’d recommend Emerald Coast. Don’t quote me on the specifics but I believe Emerald Coast says that are 14 basic subject areas where TMAATS can come from. If you take the course, they cover this in great detail. They also recommend you have 2 stories for each type of question. After taking the course and their zoom sessions you get really good at categorizing each TMAAT so that you can access the best story from your database to fit the question.

Yes being somewhat hostile has historically always been part of the interview strategy……I think the play is to try and extract how you will perform/act/ or treat others when you are under a fair amount of stress be it from other crew members, crappy dispatch, poor operational performance from other departments, ATC, or flight attendants you aren’t getting along with.
Which at United you will likely never experience the level of chaos you likely see on a daily basis at Spirit.
It still bugs me they are turning away Spirit people…….I think you guys are a carrier in distress, not to mention on the high end of qualified compared to rest of the pool.

I also had a very hostile interview when I interviewed here. During the HR, I felt every answer I gave I had to defend fairly thoroughly.
During the break before the technical portion, the interviewer became cordial with me and I met his attitude. Afterwards during the technical he was a lot more relaxed. It's all a mind game. The key is, don't lose your cool.
But I had a straight up good ole boys interview at AA. Talked about almost anything but flying the whole time. Reviewed CJOs from both. This was 2022.
