UAL Q3 Earnings
#31
Unlike some pilots, I support my FAs. I value their contributions and their work towards our companies bottomline. Along with gate agents and CSRs who are customer facing, it's important to ensure that morale doesn't drop too low. They have a difficult job and they aren't well compensated for it. The need some QOL some improvement to their work rules based on how the company treats them as well... The things I've seen that they deal with sometimes is damn near criminal...

From the earnings call this morning:
"On the other end of the spectrum, basic economy remains an important product with volumes up 21% year-over-year."
"The gauge increase from the narrowbodies, that's frankly what's driving our ability to provide basic economy, which is creating a competitive dynamic that is just fundamentally reshaping the industry."
They also said to expect another $1B in profit in Q4 which would be unhead of. They said Basic Economy is a massive revenue stream and they expect it to grow as we keep upgauging planes.
They also said we'd get 20 more planes delivered in Q4 including, finally, 787s.

Based on what I’ve seen, and talking to FAs, 49% of them won’t be happy. It looks like a huge lift for even the AFA to get them to 51%.

The FAs are their own worst enemy. We had an hour bus ride to the airport the other day, dozen or so FAs. We (pilots) asked them what it is they’re looking for in a contract and it was like rolling a grenade into a room. They went at EACH OTHER for the rest of the bus ride. For a solid hour they all told each other why what they wanted was the most important and why what everyone else wants is dumb. They are so fractured, I have no idea how you’re supposed to negotiate for a group who can’t even agree amongst themselves.

This and the above is why I try not to be in/around any discussions about it. It helps that I'm never at work🤘
