UAL Orders 40 more 321 NEOS
#11
Obviously good news for everyone on property. Especially good for Airbus pilots, except for maybe those who never wish to be Global…….but certainly there will always be some domecile where NB will be non global I presume.
I’m just kind of losing track of actual numbers. Since some news reports are repeats, or the reporting method misleads people to think more orders have taken place when in reality just a benchmark in the acquisition process has been reached.
My scoreboard says: 37 A321 New Engine Option (neo) in service
135 A321neo are on order
50 A321XLRare on order
Which makes 222.
Are these 40 A321neo inclusive of this or in addition to and now the count should be 262?
That would make United Airbus fleet larger than that of JetBlue’s

Maybe they bring the 320 to MCO/CLE and have those pilots fly the Atlantic stuff like they do now on the 737?

I’m not sure if I’m over-explaining it based on you question, but yes that is how it works. Kind of like LAX 756 not being global when EWR/IAD are. It won’t be limited to just the XLR, either. One global trip in the bid packet on the NEO or XLR for a category makes everyone global in that category.

The 320 categories will be no different. Some will be global, some won’t, but sneak in a global trip and bam, global reserve rules.

You missed the point. LAX 756 has had many periods over the last decade that they were non-global. So despite being a longer range aircraft, they were flying domestic only. Not a big deal for a line holder, but a significant difference for a reserve.

That's a lotta nice, new Airbii. I've always expected to upgrade to Guppy CA based on fleet size and trip quality. The 319s/320s weren't ETOPs capable and did a lot of RJ style flying. Now I'm wondering if the Guppy fleet will go that way while the 321s take all the best flying. The plot keeps thickening and I'm going to reassess my outlook before I chuck a rock.

But the global reserve rules can only be used to salvage a global trip. If Chicago 320 covers three trips a week to Lisbon or something, that won’t have a big impact on the guys in the foxhole.
