one of the most amazing accomplishments of airline flying is two pilots who have never met before can do so at 5am with complex issues such weather and maintenance and fly a high performance jet across the country. How is trust high level with two strangers?
Trust is “artificial” with the commonality of the FM/FOM/UPA, company ID and uniform.
if one of dudes at 5am was using the wrong FM something would be suspect.
This is why pilots who don’t care about the uniform or have a negative attitude create resentment.

But of course the uniform poster child is quite capable up to the point of…

I mean it when I say all the FAs I fly with seem to try very hard and take pride in their job. I fly with a lot of new FAs that have not only never been purser but have never been on a 757 and they try their ass off to do a great job.
so I’m not sure where those ghetto ass unprofessional FAs are but I haven’t seen them.

Only if one is so wrapped around the axle thinking the uniform makes the professional. I personally care more about decision making, flying, knowledge, and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to say no when under pressure.

Wearing the uniform well will never detract from safety, nor come at a cost to our ability as pilots.
If someone isn’t flying well, it’s not because they wear the uniform well.
If someone is flying well, it’s not because they wear it poorly.
Most of the arguments for not wearing the uniform well are merely rationalizations for being lazy.
After all, it’s the easiest part of our job.

Furthermore in all those TMAAT stories........in my S of STAR, I usually left out what I was wearing......perhaps your strategy was different.

It’s implied that you’re not going to purposely be a slob.
Did you use “Bro” in the interview too?
How’d you answer the TMAAT question centered on following company policy and/or using proper chain of command to resolve? I don’t think you told them you just do whatever you like.
Mr. Willfull Noncompliance slipped thru the cracks…

Why not do both though, like we all said we would when we took the job?
