General question if United mainline flies all RJ's:
What do we do with our fellow union members who are currently flying those airplanes? Fire them? Buy the express carrier andmerge them in?Offer them preferential hiring? With or without seniority?

Keep in mind that there is no way they should be merged or integrated with seniority on our list with any seniority greater than that of our most junior furloughed pilot. That would be an insult to all of the 1437 that are currently furlouged to have a regional pilot, that our jobs were outsourced to, placed above a pilot on the current UniCon seniority list. That would be completely unacceptable.

Yes, we did and it was shut down.
See my post (#41) at the top of page 5 of this thread:

Essentially, the MEC published a bulletin that said what I referred to in my post. The actions of a few had turned the forum into less of the information flow the MEC intended when it was established. Personal attacks, thread hijacks, etc. took over the site to the point where the MEC officers and representatives pretty much stopped posting.

Clearly, we would have some brotherly obligation to negotiate some sort of preferential interview as could be negotiated (not a guaranteed job by any means). I mean, honestly, as a result of the outsourcing that we've allowed (arguably forced through the corrupt bankruptcy process) we've absolutely hosed our own. We need to be far more concerned about taking care of those on the property and on the list before we even consider those on the outside looking in. JMHO, of course.
FWIW, if we're somehow miraculously able to do so within a relatively short effective timeframe (less than 7-10 years), I think that we'll have very little need to exert influence in the process. We'll be looking for the most qualified pilots to fill seats, and the RJ Captains will be a great fit for mainline pilot seats. No doubt there...

Since it was only business and nothing personal when they accepted jobs flying for United Express carriers, it is nothing personal and only business when those positions go away. Live by the sword and die by the sword.
They can apply for a job and if competitive be welcomed with open arms at the bottom of the mainline list just like any other new-hire.
I would certainly accept a different process if a real flow-through/flow-back program existed, but offering 10-year furloughed United pilots jobs at the bottom of the Skywest or Go Jet list (even at 2nd year pay) certainly explains the relationship in black and white.

They should expect --are are owed-- exactly the identical treatment that our furloughed, down-gauged, and bumped mainline union brothers and sisters received: nothing.
