The training footprints keep getting shorter and shorter at UAL and will continue to do so until guys stop going nuts to get through the program. As long as the rate stays up they will continue to shorten the program. So, at this rate your son or daughter will be expected to do the course in half the time you were allotted.
Starting Jan 1st, 2012 over at L-CAL, we were recently 'blessed' with an additional day of "Sim'ing" on the B756 for MV/LOE's.
Prior to 2012, we only had to endure the annual 2 days in the box, now we get the awesome experience of having 3 days.....Something about a required "warm-up" Sim???

Don't see anything about training getting "Shorter and Shorter" on our side. Just giving "the man" another day at 2:24/day.....Sweet.

I went though fire hose 57/67 school in 2000 and again in 2008. They lopped off at least 4 or 5 days of the footprint between the two.
Went through Bus school in 2009 and it was significantly shorter than when my bud went through it just a few years before. Then, the class after mine had FIVE fewer days to do it. It doesn't stop because it costs money. BTW, anyone see Jeffs latest W2?
The company response is always...."well, guys seem to be getting though it and that's what the FAA looks at". Guys are so worried that they study their butts off prior to showing up, so....they pass and the class gets shortened again down the road. Eventually a whole mess of guys are going to pop it because it's gotten so short. What kind of a favor did they receive from all the "home study for free" crowd?
It's a swirling vortex of golly and the chief safety goons (US!) just go with the flow year after year and get the job done because we are "little achievers" (name that movie) and it's bogus.
Meanwhile we leave the schoolhouse knowing less and less about the plane. Then one night over the middle of the Amazon the 67 loses just about everything electric on the jet and the dudes in the pointy end have to shine or else they make the papers in a very negative way. Oh yeah, then keep the shiny side up and divert to an escape airfield in the middle of the jungle on the back side of the clock in a crippled airplane. This happened.
I can accept my role as a widget. Just pay me for it.

That statement just twisted my gut. I turned down UPS as an F/O back around 1988 because I didn't want to fly cargo all night. So what am I doing, "Hauling human trash all night across the oceans" for alot less!
