With 1400 on furlough and IMHO probably 50% ever returning (total) that's another 350 watching from the sidelines right now. I would expect a "bump" of returns with a JCBA/SLI and/or "real" UAL recalls but a good portion of those bypassing have another gig and have no problem waiting things out, particularly if they can wait a couple years and return with decent schedules once UAL has hired off the streets a while. |
Thanks Sonny Corckett, I hate getting my hopes up needlessly.
As to the hiring being brief, they have already run through the furlough list, and approximately 350 out of the 1437, are gear-*****es at CAL. If the contract passes, hiring will still continue, and while some who bypassed will make themselves eligible to return, my personal belief is you can expect to see true blue new hires in every class starting in Feb. You will also see recalls to the UAL side in 2013 as well. |

They'll just send them to the plane that needs the bodies? Now if there is no contract, all bets are off. Coming from the L-CAL side and having seen the way they operate over the last 25+ yrs, they will have a hay day playing one side over the other. Just because you've read a blast mail here or there and its in writing NOTHING is a sure thing. Buses staying, hiring, 74 leaving new airplanes ordered, or anything else you can think of. They can/will resend things in a NY minute if it suits their master plan. |
