That is an accurate assessment... I really hope it happens..

A question about new hires at United

Does anyone know what the callout time is on reserve, and how senior or junior is IAD as a base?

Well, I'm not sure how junior IAD is at UAL, but since the United pilot side is not hiring and CAL doesn't have a base in IAD, I wouldn't expect you being able to bid IAD for quite some time.

When the SLI finally occurs, it's anyone's guess since there has never been a combined bid.

CAL shortcall is 3 hours from notification to push, 9 hours longcall.

UAL Long Call is 13 hours to push and UAL Short Call is unspecified in the Contract. There is lots of case history that it is four hours to push unless there is rush hour traffic or other circumstances. At UAL you accept all assignments and then state ... "I accept the assignment and I wil to the best I can on the push time because of traffic, contruction, or wheather conditions."

The Company pushed very hard for an actual hard time but UAL ALPA said nope on the hard time.

Long call is a bad joke at CAL. You will either be flying a trip or they will convert you to short call. Forget about sitting at home if you are a commuter.

AND the pay is 4 hours less to boot. Gotta love C'02.

It's ok - C'12 gonna make it all better... I'm so excited I could puke.

So with the UAL short call rule, does anyone have the nerve to sit short reserve at home in say MSP with a base in ORD. Have the bags packed and ready in the event the call comes through, answer it while you begin to head for the airport to catch the next ORD flight?

It's not a bad contract (well it is), so much as it's the people and the union that SOLD the contract.
