The large bid we have all seen on the CAL side took into consideration that our UAL furloughees will return to the UAL side during the next year, the period covered by the bid. Additionally, with the retirements expected in 2013 and beyond, we expect recalls to continue until all of our furloughed pilots have returned to the line. The long awaited return of our brothers and sisters is on the horizon."
Anyone get a letter yet or hear about anyone getting a recall letter? Anyone.....anyone.....

Your council played you to quell the uproar over our bid at CAL. Bank on that.

Not a peep.

My cynical side assumes there will be no "good" news anytime soon as UCH postures for a 50% +1 vote. If UAL wants to run classes in the spring they don't need to send any notices quite yet.

FWIW, I attended a recent Family Awareness event and the intent of UAL to recall was confirmed by one of the SSC reps present who has direct knowledge of UAL's "plan". Left unsaid was any potential side letters that might deal with pilots currently at CAL.

Not so fast....

Update On Recalls

We are disappointed to announce that the company has now stated that even though furlough recalls are in the plan for 2013, it is not yet ready to make an official announcement. The company's stated reason is that the block hour plan is still in flux and it is not sure exactly how many pilots it will need next summer. The company is not comfortable enough with the numbers even to announce a general number and time frame for recalls, but, nonetheless, was able to forecast a large CAL system bid and announcement of new pilot hiring. The toying with our furloughees’ emotions is reprehensible. The MEC will continue to press management to publish a plan.

Prediction: The company will announce definite recalls during TA vote.

Yup, or after a new side letter is signed that prevents pilots from bailing CAL to return to UAL since the press-to-test on quitting CAL while retaining a position on the UAL list has been completed.

A lot of reading between the lines here.

My take:

The Company has put recalls to LUAL on hold until the outcome of a TA is decided. Recalls will look totally different if the TA becomes the JCBA verses if it fails and we are back to the bargaining table for another decade.

As with all contracts, there will certainly be MOU's regarding implementation timeline and the like. And, as you say, I would imagine some type of MOU regarding the subject of furloughs on the CAL property at date of signing. We'll just have to sit back and wait.

Okay, latest rumor I got today was TA announcement on the 19th.....don't hold your breath.

Frats,
Lee
