It's more analogous to forecasting this afternoons weather than it is to picking lottery numbers. I'm not predicting WHICH longevity dates the arbitrators used or the WEIGHT they gave longevity...but if you even spend 10 seconds thinking objectively about this, you'll understand why I'm so sure

'Stovepiping' the longevity as LUAL proposed as part of the hybrid solution solves the list reordering problem. Each GROUP gets credit for the aggregate longevity they bring to the table...although each individual pilot might not be paired w/their actual longevity. The arbitrators simply decide whether to give longevity credit to the LCAL pilots for flow back/furlough time and CoEx time, then use those times to build the stove piped longevity list. Determining how much weight to give longevity is a separate matter. I would suggest that everyone read and get familiar with the longevity list methodology proposed by LUAL since it will almost certainly be used in the award.

Also, it would be important to note that the CAL version on 1:1 pilot to pilot has never ever been used. Not even close. Ever. That solution (staple the bottom 3000 UCH pilots) is incredibly more extreme that the Nicolau award that ALPA merger policy changed to avoid every happening again. Well done CAL merger committee. It made anything else but the CAL proposal seem reasonable.

Bringing this up again, how does the SFO base measure up at the junior level these days? Meaning, how quickly could a person get SFO based as a new hire today? Assuming 737 or 320. Thanks for the answers!

SFO 737 is rumored to grow in 2014 as additional 737s are delivered so it would not be surprising to see some very junior pilots awarded SFO. Historically at pre-merger UAL SFO was usually a very junior base, if not the junior base---at least on the bottom half of the narrowbody FO list.
Of course, the disparity between the 320 and 737 in SFO may also take a little to "equalize" post-SLI as the most junior 320 FO in SFO could bid the 737 and instantly go from 100% to ~50% relative seniority.

Was on an A320 Jumpseat into SFO a few nights ago, and both guys mentioned a lot of Bus FO's are doing this very thing. Only 50 737 FO spots in base right now and they're full, FWIW.

)Taking into consideration, that most A320 FO can hold B737 CA, and that SFO cost of living is at the highest level in the country, as well as undesirable commuting in and out of SFO, this base is predicted to be junior again. Patients my new hire friends, patients...
