Absolutely. I don't know about you, but my paycheck is made out to me. I got into this business because "I" wanted to fly airplanes and "I" wanted to fly for a major airline.
I did not get into this business so I can carry the weight of the pilot group on my shoulders. I could care less.
I followed a narrow path in college and sacrificed while some of my friends were partying all the time and chasing tale. I got on at CAL in 2005 due to that work and preparation finally meeting a little luck and here I am.
Do I feel bad that a lot of my college friends just got bumped by a bunch of UAL furloughees, nope, they choose that path to delay their career progress while I always took the first regional upgrade and got stuck in bases that I did not want to be in, etc.
Justice is served and that is how it plays out....
Anyone that does not like this post is most likely a democrat.

Your career is just beginning. Im willing to bet there will be many road bumps ahead. Be humble.

I agreed with you in your original post but you are setting yourself up to fail. You dont remember, but in the early 90s there were a few too many COCKY pilots. Today their airline is either BUST or they are 2000 pilots behind a way too cocky 35 year old pilot. You didnt get hired at CAL because you are skilled, you were LUCKY. Plain and simple.

I know, I just like to get the peeps rolling.... There is some truth in this though, I did work hard and did sacrifice while some of my peers did not.
It is like my nephew, has a kid in high school, barely graduates. Now 3 years later he wonders why he has no money and is working for $10 an hour. I told him, what did you expect when you have a kid early and minimal education.
People expect so much but get disappointed by reality. In both of these cases, too bad, I did prepare.

Gotcha, enjoy your fruits with a humble demeanor. THere are also many people that worked harder than you, that are many 1000s of number below you. In a time like this, quiet observation is all that is needed.

Be a good model citizen especially towards your own blood. You need to back your family up, no degrade them on a public forum albeit an anonymous one
(I too am a COnservative)

The Delta / NWA merger was the first instance of future attrition and longevity being used as an equity for what had been pretty straightforward category status (you came out with what you had going in). These wild cards are now the status quo.
This new standard is somewhat less predictable because, lets face it, we are working longer than anyone expected us to 10 years ago. We are healthier and not jumping off into an ocean of worry free defined benefit pension money.
Where I think this new standard really screws us is if we ever decide to restore our union's definition of "alter ego" and insist on recovery of our outsourced flying. 15 years ago a merger with a regional would be a staple. Now the result is a whole lot less certain.

Here is an earlier post by you.
" What am I missing, the list seems fair...
I am a 2005 CAL guy and I don't see a problem with the list. I am merged in with 1998 UAL pilots.
I was born in 1976, all of the UAL pilots near me in seniority were born in the early 1960s...."
I was no math major, buuuuuttttt born in 1976 does not = 35
Keep up the good work
