For those of you who have been invited to interview, did you send your LOR request from airlineapps to their @united email or just their everyday email address? Not sure it matters or if their name flags as a UAL pilot anyways.

 

I just sent it to the address they provided. None were at united.com.

It doesn't matter what email address is used. The actual LOR names is what identifies the recommending pilot as a UA pilot or not.

 

Actually, DOH indicates that LOR came from United pilot, so don't you forget to include it! @united.com emails helps as well.

 

Company E-mail is not really used by anyone. If you want them to get the message, use the E-mail address they give you.

Too many privacy issues with the company snooping on UAL E-mail. And...once you are hired, don't use it for anything.

 

I have several recommendations that have been written over the last 1-7 years. Do I need to have them updated or is a 5+ year LOR still valid?

I recommend that you update any LOR that is over a year old. The interviewers and board like currency. An LOR that is older will bring scrutiny on the applicant. Example, why would the candidate not have their friends update this? Does he/she take the interview seriously? Is there issues with the applicant and their LOR and such. Fewer questions the better in my opinion.

As for company emails, I disagree with fitz. Treat the company email like any other corporate email account and email for work purposes only. It is a great way to separate business from personal life.

 

Minor thread hijack.

UAL flight office in SFO in particular enjoys trying to create ways to discipline pilots. I say again, do not use UAL E-mail for anything! They snoop on a moments notice. If you really want to keep private and work stuff separate, just don't do UAL.

I guarantee the next contract they will be using all kinds of evidence from less than stellar co-workers in these E-mails. I've been here too long and know to not trust anyone in management. They have proven it time after time.

 

You have no clue about Information Technology and how to shield yourself from unauthorized access to your device.
I have been a network administrator in my earlier days. Nowadays, privacy is taking seriously, and you are in control of your e-device, who has access and how you share your info. Therefore; if you are uncomfortable with usage of e devices how to use settings and how prevent anyone from tracking you, you should consult a professional or use sail mail. By accepting job with United and using our website, you are voluntarily agree to terms and conditions associated with access, I strongly suggest you read our policy and set your e-device to your privacy requirements.
For everyone else, do not be afraid to use United email, looks more professional to send LOR [email protected] then google, yahoo, or hotmail, speaking of privacy, those domains I would stay away as far as you can and pay a bid for your own domain and mail server to assure total privacy.
You can always disable @united.com email when not needed.

Ok then, go ahead, just for you, use UAL E-mail. I would not be so fast to jump to conclusions about someone you do not know. I am well aware of the implications and the Tech--and management's decisions to do monumentally stupid stuff. It sounds like you trust UAL management and think we have a competent IT department. Good for you!
