I think new-hires should refrain from saying "In training we did it this way" as long as the Captain doesn't say "I've always done it this (my) way".....

While I agree for the most part with this critique, what should the new hire say when accomplishing a task in line with what was taught in training? Is that not the goal of training? Give a baseline for getting the job done? Sure we all create our own little nuances for getting the job done withing the SOP, but that takes time. My standard when new in a plane is to let the Capt (or FO) know. Then when doing something and the other pilot asks what I am doing is to let them know that this is how I was taught, but welcome any advice for better/more efficient/safer/etc ways to do things. What should I be saying?

Everyone has been great so far, and in fact on my last trip the captain offered both legs just so I could get the reps.

Everyone here is very welcoming and I see the captain as a resource to learn from. Helps pass the time and add different techniques to my bag of tricks.
This has been my experience on west coast Guppies.

DoubleTree across the steet is nice.

It's also the place where all new hires stay during indoc, so you can probably ask them questions.

The Holiday Inn and the Renaissance on Quebec Street are both nice, within easy walking distance, and will give you a ride over in case of inclement weather.

It really depends on which chain's points you need or want.

For those of us who've been around the block, we've done the time and already have the nuances well in hand. You're new and we're not. Sit back and let the Captain be the Captain while you do your job as a new F/O.

Rinse and repeat.

Captain...cut the guy some slack. Nobody is questioning your godliness. Worstpilotever was just making the point that the only baseline they have to work off is the way they were taught in training. There was a thread a few months ago about using Flaps 25 and autobrakes as the SOP. That was news to me...I've never seen anything other than flaps 30 and brakes off. I just did a landings class this weekend and the PI said they went thru a short time where they were pushing that in training. Now he says they are going back to flaps 30 as the SOP. Just one small example of a dis-connect that might be confusing to a new guy hitting the line.

You came across a bit obtuse. I'm sure the new hires just want to learn their new job and fit in.

They give you a list of hotels but you have to make your own reservations and pay.
