Apologize for quoting myself, but this was not just a tongue in cheek comment.
The lack of payment for the last contract is a good reason for several thousand no votes on this one. Why agree to give everyone else a raise while quietly agreeing that witholding our bonus was the right thing to do. It wasn't, and I think to a man/woman, no one on the CAL side expected they would have been waiting years to get their pay while the rest got theirs.

On a separate note I think we can all agree on is that we are discussing this issue in an information vacuum. Be it the value of this agreement and the opportunities lost by delaying sec 6 negotiations, or the true genesis of the initiation of a contract extension.
Whether you vote for or against, we should demand the above in unbiased terms. At the very least, we need the above to place an educated vote. I'm not hopeful when we start hearing "industry leading."

I have zero doubt the company will cancel SFO-AKL/TLV, blame us in the media, and deploy the Sparkies elsewhere if they don't get FRMS fix needed. This leverage is not the sledge hammer some here seem to think. Btw Sparkie deleveries stop next spring so it won't be hard for them to find enough alternatives.

I always respect the opinion of others. On this forum, their are a core of guys who I agree with 80 to 90 % of the time. James, you are one of them.
Once upon a time, we refused to fly 50 seat jets. They were "beginner jets' for "beginner pilots". 15 years later, when those jets took half of our domestic feeder flights, be beeaached and moaned about all of our domestic flying being outsourced.
Now, we want to make it painful and expensive to fly LAX to SYD and SFO to TLV? Really?????
Those are dream routes for airline pilots. That is the ultimate carrot why most of us became airline pilots.
If we make it difficult, expensive, and unreliable, it will be outsourced to a Star Alliance partner in a heart beat.
And we will beeaach, this is BS!!!!!! They just outsourced more of our flying!!!!!!
Look at our history. Do we really want to repeat it?
"Yes" vote. Only because "Hell yes" isn't an option.

Dude lets keep things simple. No CAL/UAL pilot has received the 5% lump sum. We can thank the 3 @rseholes that sued cause everything is still gummed up in legal system. It's there fault not ALPA's. Nobody quietly agreed to withhold a penny from you. There are no sides on this issue. We are all getting hosed. Get informed before triggering another CAL/UAL war.

I agree. The LCCs, along with the advent of internet based based ticket purchases, destroyed domestic yields. We lived through a lost decade as a result. During that time, the international side of the business kept the operation afloat. We now face a serious competitive threat to our international operation. Not only are we getting beat on price internationally, we are getting beat on service. Why on earth would we make it harder to compete? Just because the airplanes are on the property today doesn't mean they will be down the road.
I'll leave it at this. We have 12,000+ dudes with a vote. With a clear, unbiased explanation of the circumstances in front of us, i'm confident the majority will make a reasoned decision and life will move on.
Now back to a Meister Brau and draining the shi$ter!

Financing the operation becomes an expensive proposition. No one wants to make it difficult, but many are realigning the leverage to the extent that extending a sub par contract for an indefinite period for a 13% pay raise seems like a good idea. Yes, the company could wash their hands of the entire matter and extend sec 6 as well. This is the information vacuum we find ourselves now.
