If you are an O-3 and below, you will likely be sitting more than your share of alert duty on 4th of July weekend, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New years.....You're welcome.

Military leave is for exactly that. Duty is performed on those days. If it happens to be 4th of July, then its apropos. I have absolutely no problem with anyone on military duty and I don't personally know anyone else that would tell me this in person.
UAL used to be great to the military guys, no questions asked, just bring in a copy of orders. This latest crop of managers, meaning since Jeffy, seem to take it personally that someone would have the temerity to defend our country on company time.
The military guys have it hard enough, they have laws that protect their ability to perform their duty--because of crappy do nothing know nothing never been in the military managers like we have now, that is part of the system. If you don't like it, and it causes you to not get the 4th off, then bid to another equipment and be more senior. Same argument as "I'll never be on reserve."
Suck it up.

I disagree. I think the express pilots votes were key to putting it over the edge, and over the top, and putting the union on the map. Furthermore, I feel the express pilots did allot of heavy lifting in that union and did it on the cheap. It was the express pilots who taught the CAL pilots what unity and solidarity were all about. CAL pilots only knew about those things from books. We actually had express pilots mentoring the CAL pilots in terms of what a union is and what it should be doing.

Uhh. You seem to be forgetting that "Military Leave" part. Second job, most likely commuting to that second job that demands from 8-15 days a month. Defending our country...and you. And sometimes you go to wonderful places in the world where you are trying to help, and they shoot at you.

Obviously there are 24/7 world wide Ops, and if you're legitimately engaged then you have nothing to worry about. There are jerkoffs that abuse it though and it's why we're having this conversation.

With regards to this "new crop of managers" you speak of, let's do a quick rundown why don't we. Flight operations management supervising pilots directly (Chief Pilots)
LAX Alberto Diaz (LUAL)
SFO Lawrence Ellis (LUAL)
DEN Rob Biddle (LUAL)
IAH Bebe O'Neal (LUAL)
IAD James Simons (LUAL)
ORD Bo Ellis (LUAL)
EWR Bill Konrad (LUAL)
GUM Pierre Freney (LCAL)
CLE Falls under ORD (LUAL)
Maybe it is coming from the folks at Willis Tower?
SVP Howard Attarian (LUAL)
MD/System Chief Bryan Quigley (LUAL)
MD Flight Operations Rick Muir (LCAL)
Or might the new crop be the leadership at DTK?
MD Training Mike McCasky (LUAL)
MD Standards John Weigand (LUAL)
Both have directors under them (LUAL)
From the SVP on down, the management of flight operations at UAL (whom I happen to think are doing a pretty darn good job right now) is extremely LUAL heavy. Not sure how "new" they are to you but they are all new names to me. Again, nothing personal meant by my post earlier. I am agnostic with regards to legacy politics and don't care to venture into a discussion of who's this or that was better. Have a great week.

I have and do "suck it up". I have no problem with it. I never pursued a military career and therefore have only one job in which to rely on in good times and in bad. My decision. What bothers me and others is the self righteous, entitled belief that while on "leave", one should also reap the rewards earned by those who were working full time at this airline and thus were eligible for the "signing bonus". Nothing personal, just business.

Maybe I should have been more specific. Managers that Jeffy put in. I think we are moving to a much less antagonistic group than we have had since last year. Hopefully the trend will continue.

Get off your cross. I've never worked a single holiday stateside active duty or reserve. Deployed, obviously. Unless you're in a Noble Eagle or UAS or similar unit, I've yet to find the reserve/guard squadron thats running a drill weekend on the 4th/cmas/tgiving.

We had the capability of obtaining vote results for position, carrier, age, etc., all based upon the logon credentials and profile of the voter. The vote results of both groups separately showed passage by each...by a small margin at Continental and a much larger margin at Express.
