Mine just says "Active".

I actually called a friend in a significant position at UPS and asked the same question about how to differentiate yourself. He just said TPIC counts for a lot, plus volunteer experience and recommendations. I need to speak with him a bit more, but I am assuming one would list the volunteer time under employment.

Congrats on the Hogan. Good luck.

How are you entering all of your acft types on the app when the drop down menu only provides "jet" and "ME Turboprop " as selections? No recip whatsoever.

I didn't see anywhere on the application to list volunteer time. The only place I can think to put it would be on your resume that you can upload to the website.

I'm fairly certain writing safety articles about flying airplanes at the company is directly related to flying competence as well as increasing the competence of others.
As for the others, they all show a well-roundedness and compassion. My ALPA position was a member of the Pilot Assistance Committee.
Volunteering at the VA was a way for me to serve our veterans and our country.
Finally, I personally enjoy working with animals.

Ah, misunderstood. Sorry.
And yes, I completely agree. There are some airlines that are even worse. I won't mention them.

As a father of a one year old and one on the way I can say I don't have much time to volunteer since I schedule to be off when my wife works to save on nanny expenses. We foster dogs because that's our passion and the shelter we work for is amazing in Chicago, they drop off and pick up, if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be able to volunteer.

I didn't see on the app where you break down flight time by type. Did I miss something?

PC, except for your first sentence, I agree with everything else you've said. Volunteering does help a persons development and shows compassion for your fellow-man. I applaud your efforts. However, your thinking that editing a flying article(s) shows a direct correlation with flying skills is off the mark. News reporters are always writing articles about flight accidents, many times they're completely off base. The same would apply to their editiors. Just sayin'.
