As soon as your number comes up on the FIFO list you get your class date. If you haven’t hit your 2,000 hours at the Aviate regional, then they go to the next person below you until you hit your hours.
What was the program called before aviate? The one where'd they reject people on a whim with no reason. Now you just won't get selected up front if you're a white dude. Well 2500 of you will while those with less experience and qualifications leap frog you based on the color of their skin or lady parts. I'd be looking for a company that hires on merit, content of character, and doesn't judge you by the color of your skin. Air Wisconsin was always good to me when I was there but it's not a pathway to United is all I'm saying.

With upcoming retirements in the industry, experts are anticipating the shortage of pilots will return.

Not saying pro or con on this. Just trying to get the lay of the land.
What it means to me is there's a potential for 25% of their new pilots to be less safe than the other 75%. This is aviation where safety comes first. You start hiring to fill quotas to appease wokeness and safety goes out the window. Minorities are just a small percentage of our pilot industry family. I just feel that a 50% target starts getting dicey as they'll have to really scrape the bottom of the barrel to fill that quota. Not to mention the obvious that it's discrimination. I'm all for my fellow woman and person's of color to advance in equality with the rest of us. Unless they suck, in which case please find a different career with the lousy white guys who I can't stand flying with either.

You gotta read further than the headline, tranny. It's window dressing for woke folk, at least overtly.
They are going to give racial and sexual preference for who gets flight loans, so too bad so sad, evil white male oppressors. Time to pay for the sins of your grandfathers (who, incidentally, are the ones lending the money...)

But ultimately skills will (should) determine who gets through flight training.

Personally, I find the term 'people of color' to be a racially insensitive word, but somehow no one ever asked me. How about human? That's a pretty good word.

"CHICAGO (Reuters) - United Airlines said on Tuesday it wants women and people of color to make up at least half of the 5,000 pilots it plans to train this decade at its new flight school, a push to diversify a career traditionally dominated by white men...
The airline’s credit card partner, JPMorgan Chase, will fund another $1.2 million for women and people of color accepted to the academy, which expects to enroll 100 students this year."

well good thing you have a perfect understanding of how it works. Flight schools traditionally have a 90% white men enrollment. United bought its own flight school that aims to have a 50% white men/50% other. They are actively looking for people that fit into the other category. The won’t tell people “no” because they are white but are actively looking to get others into the door of aviation which is traditionally white men. The people who enter through aviate training academy will still ave to do all the training and meet the same minimums as everyone else before starting at United.

Exactly! The whole point of the school is to make the entrants qualified through training 😂

No one is holding minorities back from applying and attending any flight schools as is.

you are correct, except there is very little aviation presence or knowledge in minority communities. United is using their name and school to change this. They are providing mentoring and a program to allow disadvantaged youth a chance to break the typical cycle. They are seeking them, providing financial means and a clear path to an airline. Without this, these minorities will not know how to do it. I know it’s easy for us to say, “just look it up” or I did everything myself.. good for you, but in general people are what surrounds them. Right now a huge majority of airline pilots are white men, of that a huge majority of them knew a pilot that helped them get into aviation, not all but most. In minority communities there isn’t this option right now. If you are worried about someone taking your job your have about 5 years to apply and work at United before any of these minority aviate applicants make it to United. You can either ***** about how it’s unfair or put on a smile and act like a normal human, pull up your bootstraps and find a way. Let me guess you didn’t apply to aviate at the express level because you are too good for it.

you're not stuck at any regional while in aviate, once you have your designated time and hours you can work as a bus driver if you want. However when they call you need to be current. Matter of fact if you have your aviate mins you could go and work for spirit, frontier sun country until your number is called.
