Part 117 rest rules do not apply to part 135 cargo operators if I remember correctly.
You think they abuse you now under 117, just wait until that goes out the window.
Enjoy that 10 pm show time in cvg or day for 5-6 legs, finishing up 10-11 am next day .
That’s IF the cargo thing ever comes to reality .
So far only 1 plane and it’s still sitting.
You gonna put your trust in that ?
Good luck
ZW has went from one of the premier regionals around to a complete dumpster fire in just a few short years . Why ? Because of lack of a vision and forward thinking by inept management.
They refuse to change , like they say at zw,” We have been doing things this way for the last 30 plus years , why change ? “ See where that line of thinking has got them .
Meanwhile the industry evolved right in front of their eyes and they didn’t see it .

Don’t forget also to all the people that think cargo will save this place. Is it gonna be 60 airplanes flying boxes? Probably not. Probably in the 5-15 aircraft range. Could be as low as 2-3 planes, maybe even just the 1. So a good chunk of pilots will be shown the door. They’re not gonna need 500 pilots to fly 5 airplanes. Boxes don’t need coffee service either, all your FA friends, and I mean all of them will get let go too. Bases will probably get shrunk to ATW or MKE only. Might lose KCM and probably CASS. You might have cargo but it it’ll come at the cost of a lot jobs. Potentially yours. But hey, cargo.

FWW.

And two more UA classes this month, two in December before the holiday break, then back to the weekly classes after the first of the year.

Wave two interviewees start going over with the December 7 class. Gonna be interesting...

Funny thing is , you talk to some of these guys and they believe something is still “in the works”.
They are in denial , or dullisional or both .
They will be saying that as the doors are being padlocked .

I think that is highly likely. In my opinion.

This is the exact debate that was happening in 2016 with some people thinking a secret deal was in the works and others calling those people naive and insisting ZW was as good as dead. And then, wouldn't you know it, there was a secret deal. The circumstances this time around are very similar in that the prospects look bleak but pilots are also a very valuable commodity again so I could see it going either way. That being said, if I were just entering the industry I would be very leery about taking the risk of coming here and having to stress about the future of the company.

In the eyes of UAL management, regional pilots are valuable, but also transferable. If company A folds, those pilots can apply and aid the staffing issues at company B. I’d agree that accepting employment at a single class 50 seat airline in the UAL system carries much greater risk than going to a larger company. AW could pull a rabbit out of the hat, but the odds are pretty good that pilots being hired now are going to have to seek other employment when the contract with UAL expires in just over a year. Good luck.
