Interesting. So, if you have to pay back the bonus is it deducted from your income on your taxes? Or are you still taxed on that same amount of income? What a headache trying to figure this stuff all out. I think this helps me to decide that bonuses should have no bearing on which airline I decide to get current with.

Why because I have a positive outlook?
I'm going to feel bad for the person who chooses not to take the money because they are scared of getting fired and then after 2 years realizes they are still around and never took the money.
How many people do you know have been fired after IOE?
If you take the money and are worried, invest it. You'll have it if you need it.
Everything they've been saying has been coming true. I like the outlook and those hired now will too.
Like I said, I'm happy here. Think what you want.

You have to make it to IOE to be fired after IOE
I am happy here, but I have a firm grasp on the reality as opposed to the hyperbole. and the reality here is very good at the operational level.
What I despise is mendacity. If it ain't money-free-for-nothing, then it ain't a bonus so don't call it one. And don't include potential wages from a forecasted 18 month upgrade in your total compensation projections.
Why is honesty so hard?

First time I've actually understood the bonus tax (my wife got a signing bonus for her new job and I thought they held out a lot). Thanks for the simple explanation.

It is good too hear of the upgrades again. To correct an earlier response.
The last full upgrade class that completed was in the Spring of 2016. They ran two of them in sequential months then went dark.
They upgraded two people in July 2016 (one was a ACP and so it was required, the other was I think due to a mis-award that they had to honor)
The last vacancy award for Captain was around September of 2016 which has approx four FOs making captain's pay because they haven't held the class yet.
So the last actual class to make it to the line that wasn't a fluke was about 15 months ago. Not two years. While that sounds better, the stagnation was enough to chase this former senior FO out the door.
Glad to see the line moving again.

FYI they have told us in class that you only pay back the net after tax of the bonus. It also prorated after the first year every quarter. The method of signing the bonus contract is rather suspect too. I would just take the bonus money and if you need to leave deal I don't think they have much legal ground to go after you, but I'm no lawyer.

We are done with American sometime around February 2018. I don't know the exact date. We start flying for United out of the ORF base in September. ORD and IAD are set to open in OCT-NOV. So yes we will be flying for both for a few months.

Daily Flying
Got a CJO from AW but still not sure if I'll accept. A few quick questions regarding the AW 200s.
1) Does it have capability to accept a PDC at airports that offer it?
2) Is is dual or single FMS?
3) Which hotels do crews stay at? Are they crap?
4) What will be typical UA flying overnights?
Thanks
