If we'd just stay at Four Points or Hampton I'd be happy. At least they are consistent.
Here's an issue that the line-holders don't even know exist (they also don't work more than 4 days in a row unless they want a new boat or forgot to bid). You new guys are going to be on Reserve, so often you won't be staying at the "Crew" hotel with everyone else because you get split off a crew and join a different crew the next day. As a single, don't be surprised to be at a Choice property and 30 minutes from the airport with no restaurant or fast food nearby. Not always, but often enough. The difference in line-holder vs reserve quality of life is immense. It's two different airlines.

Default Better Options?

more of a broad picture, this place can be painted very differently depending on who you talk to, and it is simply based on their timing of getting hired with this company and the conjunction of the company's decisions in relation to the industry.

The bonus money is good, it's sh!tty that the money isn't wrapped up into your salary, but take what you can get. I would hope that everyone would talk with their feet and not show up to class so that it would motivate the company to bargain at the table and increase our wages and remove the concessions that are in our current expired contract. That won't happen because individuals on a whole are greedy. Can't blame anyone for that. Upgrades in 18 to 24 months make sense IIIIIFFFFFF we can continue to hire enough people AAAAAANNNNNNDDDDDDD a minimum of 10ish captains leave per month. This attrition along with the "planned growth" and the ever present carrot on the stick bigger planes on the horizon rumor come true, we could be upgrading 15-20 per month to catch up and become, and remain properly staffed. Typically "properly staffed" is a very relative term depending on which seat you occupy, (management, executives, scheduling, fo, capt)

it doesn't seem like a terrible idea to come here but its not the most attractive either. Take the advice from grumble and weigh the things that contribute to qol instead of if we have huds or dual fms installed. You would be more of a fool than you already are if that is how you were to choose and airline to work for. You already made the mistake of choosing to become a pilot.

Good luck
I'm genuinely curious what the better option would be? Is this a grass is always greener comment or are there legitimately better options for someone looking for an ORD base? Envoy comes to mind as an alternative since they have a similar bonus structure but is that really any better than AW?

What I am saying in short is our future is not certain; not that anyone else's is. Our long term future is heavily dependent upon our very short term future, and more specifically an individuals outlook for their short and long term future could be severely impacted by qol issues here at awac. Simple for instance: if the train slows down as it did before and we start to have 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, people in class per month equating to 1, 2, 3, people out on the line 3 months later, those who get hired in the next three month may sit reserve for 2 years. I don't care who you are, resv sucks. SOOOOOOO, all I am saying is weigh your decision carefully because although no one knows what is going to happen in the future, when the future becomes the past, and you look back and think to yourself, "I could have been upgrading at xyz in 3 to 4 months from now if I had just gone there instead." Albeit the xyz in this case could potentially be awac.

The Legacies, LLCs and Regionals all have a Top-tier, Mid-tier, and Sh*t-tier category.

I would put both Envoy and AWA in the top-tier category. The differences between them are minimal and both would be great places to work. It's down to personal preference.

I have over 3k hours 121. If I got on in the next several months would this short upgrade time still hold true? I accepted a job at Air Wisconsin and starting in a few weeks but this thread is hard to ignore.

Also how long is ORD upgrade running now? Thanks for the info.

I see you have promptly jumped over to the envoy thread and are interested in what they have to offer. This is precisely what I mean. They have the current upgrade times with proof to back it up. We here at awac are operating on the hopes that recruits will believe what the company has to say with no proof of concept. I hope it works out, truly I do, but it is hard to feel positive when we are still being sh!t on. To be clear "we" is a relative term dependant upon seniority.

Taking a bus too and from the hotel to training everyday, not a short bus just to be clear a full size bus hahah. Just wanted to let people know here on the forums that New Hires are here in Appleton, some people drive and the bus is still full. Just saw a list for a new indoc class staring with 20 people. Two classes a month makes about 35-40 new hires a month considering everyone makes it to the line. Just thought I would drop in with this relative info.

I've heard the same. I've heard we're having zero issues getting quality applicants.

I hear you. The problem with that 3 month upgrade is that it isn't based on movement and could evaporate just as quickly as it materialized.

When you look at the fact that:

1. AW is closing all current bases and that is sure to create a strong incentive for some current pilots to move along

2. The utilization of the current aircraft is expected to increase dramatically

3. AW is offering literally the highest combined bonus/pay of any regional

4. It appears classes are filling based on info just posted to this thread

5. CPP is about to begin

6. From what I have seen from candid former crew member discussions, my interactions with the the interview team, etc. this seems like a great company from a cultural perspective

...I think there's a strong, well educated argument to be made for this being THE regional to get hired at currently.

Of course everything in this industry is a crapshoot and you never know if you made the right decision until it's too late.
