Main Purpose of the Role
The First Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe journey and a positive experience for all guests. This position will safely operate the aircraft in accordance with all Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and company policies and procedures while maintaining a lasting impression of friendliness. The First Officer should be an outstanding service representative of the Virgin America brand.
**YOU WILL BE BASED IN EITHER LAX, SFO OR JFK**
Professional Experience & Certifications Required
FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certification
2,500 hours fixed wing total time in airplanes (excluded: Helo, Sim, F/E time)
Current FAA Class 1 Medical Certificate
Must pass FAA mandated drug test
FCC Radio License
Must possess a valid U.S. Driver’s license
Current passport
Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Must pass required federal background checks and Virgin America pre-employment background checks
Excellent communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Internet e-mail functions
Preferred Qualifications
Check Airmen or Instructor time
1000 hours total time as PIC, in turbine or jet aircraft
Airbus A320 type rating
College Degree

Retirements are minimal. There were none this year and I believe none for 2015. I've heard there is one Age 65 guy in 2016. I wouldn't count on retirements here to move up the list. As for aircraft additions the *current* plan is 5 planes this year and 5 planes for 2016. Then we don't have any until the 30 NEOs from 2020-2022. This is subject to change and in all likeliness now that VX is a public company with better access to financial markets and leasing options rates, most likely there will be planes in the 2017-2019 timeframe. But currently the previous mentioned fleet plan is the only thing official. So going by that I'd say 2022 for a newhire today to upgrade = ~ 8 yrs.

Based on current orders and our staffing model the bottom 60-80 guys/gals currently on property will not be captains in 2022.
I honestly don't know why anyone would want to come here anymore.
Trips are getting worse!
QOL is getting worse!
Pay is quickly reaching the worst!
The only reason to come here now would be to get some Airbus experience to go somewhere better.
