Serious question? Why does your whole schedule for a year hinge on two weeks of vacation and what the credit for the days are. Arguably you could have a better schedule for the whole year (with bulletproof PBS language) instead of a couple extra hours per day on vacation.

I would love PBS if done right but the VX PBS fanboys aren't going to change anyone's minds. If you don't understand why I'm asking for better vacation then you don't have the slightest grasp of the current AK CBA and what needs to change to get most of us to even consider PBS.

Single day vacation trades (one strong point of AS) are good only with line bidding. With PBS it would be a pre assigned activity that day with 3.5 hrs value and you could still get a trip day before/after. With line bidding the entire trip drops.

I’m sure the possibility exists to negotiate a PBS when vacation is placed after lines are awarded.

wait what? That was not anti union. I just said it was the union that does not allow us to fly those kind of trips for fatigue mitigation.

My point about what is efficient for us is not efficient for the company was to make sure people know the difference. Why, because they don't.

Our trips are very inefficient for the pilots, not for the company. I do not like that and will work to get it changed.

I wan't min calendar day back, WOCL override, better vacation, holiday pay and all open time set to premium.

What do you wan't? sit around and complain all day?

I don’t want the Alaska union to arbitrarily decide on a number like 5:51 block or greater is too much to do another flight after, but a 5:50 is okay. Part 117 allows a 9 hr flight time day, then barring any company buffer (not union) we should have trips that reflect that. I just did BOS-LAX and followed with LAX-SFO. Total block was over 8 hrs. No, it wasn’t that hard.

Here’s the problem on this subject on APC in the past, there were several SEA pilots that wrote they didn’t want to do an early 6am show on the east coast to transcon to the west coast and another leg, because to them an early east coast wake up is minus 3 hrs body clock time. So a 3am start for 2 legs is apparently too much.

Which brings back the point they shouldn’t have closed the NY base. But now that they did, let’s put on boy pants and start doing efficient trips. Who is this “fatigue mitigation committee” and what data have they used to come up with the 5:51 rule to “improve” safety?

Ok well now that you are done flaming, do you mind enlightening the people that think the Alaska vacation system is a total Albatros? Have you used any other vacation system or worked at another airline to see how different systems should and could be implemented?

Did you notice that Alaska is possibly the only airline that uses line bidding? It isn't because Alaska line bidding is better than everyone else, it's because everyone else in the industry has figured out that PBS is the better and right way to do things. You will have PBS it's just a matter of time. Probably should start thinking about how it should be implemented and enlightening people who are taking on your vacation system to whatever benefits it has so we don't consider throwing it in the trash.

Yeah but if you don't pick anything up to make up for the loss of credit you become a reserve and can be assigned anything on any day?

Doesn’t Southwest, Fed Ex and for the moment Spirit and Frontier all use line bidding? I know the last 2 are making the transition to PBS but line bidding is still used in the industry.
