Pathetic!
"Willing to give up?".... ZERO! Kasher took pretty much everything; we don't owe the company anything. We can score Academy winning contracts for the next 3 decades and it won't make up for all of the losses-not even close. Alaskan is making all time record profits and did they return a penny back to this pilot group? CEO pay has gone up by 937% since 1978. Yeah, they make more than 10 times what they made 30 years ago. What did a 747 captain make it 1978? What's he making today? Greed never stops. Why do you think labor has to give up anything? Wake up, boys 'n girls! Change the mentality and change the game!
Scope is a big issue and it is a highly reasonable and necessary part of a contract. Perhaps there is a way around how we think of scope altogether.. How about setting a new industry precedent and integrating all aircraft and labor into one company with one contract.. Laughable perhaps, and it opens up a whole new slew of questions/issues, but it is something I have thought about for quite some time.

So much discontent here... We should all be thankful that we're employed at all. Time to buy in. Heck, we should all make our own baseball trading cards and hand them out individually to all the MVP Gold & 75K passengers.

*sarcasm intended*

Don't think you guys need to take a hit in pay for scope. AA and delta 737 rates are already higher, so there is some leverage for the higher pay rates. Then just a few more quarters of record profits then you have it. Money for raises and enough buck in the bank to get scope.

Certainly doable-jetBlue does and it's working for them. The current setup (Horizontal and Alaskan) is company's leveraging tool against the labor groups. A tiny air group does not need two airlines, especially when the smaller of the two are used as whipping boys. Just with Horizon, the air group is whipsawing them using Skywest.
Combining Horizon and Alaska makes a lot of sense from labor's/business perspective but it's $$$ and politics for the greedy folks up top.
Who knows....in their little minds, it could be air group's back up plan to keep Horizon's commuter/regional certificate just incase they can't survive in the major airline world, in which case they'll just become another Skywest, Republic, Mesa, etc. After all, Alaskan is quickly becoming the Mesa of the legacy/major airlines.

I don't know the guy, but I've heard things about him aside from this whole baseball card thing. Sounds like he's a total toolbox and he's definitely been drinking the Kool-Aid by the 55-gallon drum full.

It's really a joke that they featured this on the company website. Then, you read the comments under the article. Someone was gushing about what a great idea this is and that all captains should do this. Really? Who's going to pay for it? Only a handful are gullible enough to spend their own money on something silly.

As a matter of safety & security, I would never print my name on a card and hand it to some random passenger. Heck, I don't even like the FAs announcing my name during their introductory PA.

Pilots need to focus on their duties. Going in the cabin and schmoozing with the passengers detracts from conduct of safe flight operations.

Man, all this talk makes one nervous about looking for employment at Alaska! What's the good side?

The good side is Alaska is a very stable company with a history of coservative management. They grow internally. The bases are in places where people want to live. Most of the flying is single time zone. Lots of great people work there...pilots, F/As and CSAs.

All the problems people talk about here are pretty minor in the great view of things. And all the problems ar Alaska are at every airline you'll ever work for.

Agree 100%. Alaska employees give 110% every day. That's why Alaska has the most loyal, enthusiastic customer base in the industry. It's a shame that while the Company gives you lip service about how great you guys are, they refuse to follow through and treat you like the jewels you truly are.

That, frankly, sucks.
