OldHrntDRVR,

FWIW I'm a reservist and I've never had a problem taking mil leave. The company of course is disorganized and takes forever to mark it correctly in Merlot, but they've always put MIL in the notes (I gave them my schedule well in advance) so I've never gotten a phone call over it. As long as you have orders or a schedule with a military letterhead and Commanders sig at the bottom your good.

Use it as an excuse to escape a strike and not scab? Do whatever you got to do, just don't cross the picket line. If we go on strike...No one goes back to work til we get a contract, then EVERYONE goes back to work.

Things are rough here and I know guys are picking up as much mil leave as they can to escape the company's wrath (legally of course). That said, I only recommend coming here if you live in one of our junior bases and can still deal with being involuntarily being TDY'd. In the last two classes, quite a few guys couldn't hold the bases they wanted and were forced into it.

Good Luck with you decision and feel free to PM me if you need any more info.

I have at least one friend...but she is a chocolate lab...and no connections to the airlines. Not sure why you would make such an observation. I'm just picking peoples brains....
Well get your FEMALE CHOCOLATE lab to write you a rec and take it to the next conference. Plumb every contact you have at any major for a kick into the interview pool.

The reason I mention it is because if even people of your quals are willing and able to accept the terms that ALG is imposing on its pilots, then as a profession, they have little hope of making it better.

In the aggregate, ALG's terms and conditions effect the whole profession as a whole and helping them starve the company of new starry eyed applicants would go a long way in showing ALG that their compensation and work rules are not sustainable.

They used to have a great niche where pilots accepted some pay shortcomings for a great QOL. Now, not so much according to ALG worker bees and their recent strike vote.

False. They have to let you go for ANY mil duty. If You want to go do 10+ days of UTAs/AFTPs, they have to let you go. They also have to honor a day on the front to be in place for the mil duty.

Now there are people that drop mil leave and never do any mil. That is grounds for being fired. If you are in the squadron doing ANY type of work, you are legally protected.

Thank you...I will reach out shortly...It seems as though packrat doesn't have all his ducks in a row wrt reservists...and what they can and can't do. Your reflection is in line with what all of my buddies do. It would be a way to join the strike...while in my first year...and covering my butt while doing military stuff in the short term.

I am not sure people of my quals are "willing" to accept it...we are just new to the game and trying to garner all of the info possible. I'll see if my pooch can get a letter going for me. I have several recs in at AA, UA, FedEx, UPS, and Atlas...just no calls yet.

And that is exactly what goes on...thank you for clarifying...

You have a Conditional Job Offer from Delta? Are you planning to disclose this during the phone interview?

Listen, I was a TAR for 6 and a half years and a 121 guy for 24. You can "drop mil" anytime you want, the airline doesn't have to approve it EXCEPT for drill weekend and deployments/activation. I'm sure your buds aren't at airlines about to go on strike or short staffed to the extent Allegiant is. That's the difference.

On the other side of the coin, I'd ask around the squadron about the availability of SPECAC and additional drills. If you're the NATOPS guy at the unit, you already have (by billet) as many additional drills as the law allows. NATOPS guys usually have the luxury of unlimited SPECAC (I did) because the squadron needs you to give Instrument and NATOPS checks.

If you're just an average Joe, you may find your access to SPECAC limited due to budgetary concerns.

With all the airline hiring going on, with your quals, you don't have to jump on the first bandwagon that comes around. Especially if it even has the remotest possibility of putting your career in an untenable position.

Think about it...scab or a termination on you PRIA. Do you really want to be in that position?

P.S. Just reread the thread...You have a CJO from DAL? Are you nuts? Why would you even talk to Allegiant?

I had a passenger thank me yesterday for getting him to his destination alive. It was a pretty smooth flight so I couldn't tell if he was a wise guy or genuine.

I thought I would share.
