You live where ever you want, as long as it's in the Continental United States. They buy you an airline ticket from your home to your TDY assignment. At or near the end of that month of TDY, or the beginning of the next one, they buy you an airline ticket from wherever you are, to your next TDY location. Repeat this every month.
Last I knew, the official position on you going home while you are in the homeless base was going to be your problem. They are not going to help you go back and forth.
Also, your ability to take a weeks vacation while in the homeless base is somewhat questionable. Currently, if a pilot from a regular base has vacation during a month they should have been on TDY, they skip that person and move to the next. It's too hard for them to figure it out. Not sure how they will handle it for people on permanent TDY.

VBD (the tdy base) has it's own vacation bid just like any base. We get weeks of vacation scheduled exactly like anyone else. I have 3 weeks of vacation awarded this year, no problem.

Yuck.
I hope you guys get good news soon. I'll bet the company will be much more motivated to talk once you are released into a cool off period.

I have been involuntarily tdy'd for MANY months. I can assure you that I was tdy'd on the months I have vacation. You are thinking of voluntary tdy, if you have vacation they will not take your request to be tdy'd. They have no problem forcing you into tdy on a vacation month. And they still do a great job making you work the day before and after your vacation when on tdy.

TDY is a very sore subject with myself, so sorry if I have a hard time believing that all I have to do is bid for vacation and be assured I won't be tdy'd. For all who want to come here, this is an example of the chaos that is Allegiant. I have over 200 pilots junior to me that don't have to worry about TDY. I'm an FO, and it Pi$$es me off that I have to be away from my family months at a time when someone 200 numbers jr. to me gets to be home. Be forewarned, things here are done out of seniority, and nobody cares. In talking to pilots from every base (I've been tdy'd to most bases) I don't think a proper TDY policy is something most guys want to strike over. I hope I'm wrong, but if you want to come here be prepared to spend months on end away from home. With little regard to seniority.
As I tell everyone, we are very close to having a great gig here, but unfortunetly we have a management that is bent on making our lives as miserable as possible. Maybe a new contract will help, maybe not. Personally I don't care if I make twice what I'm making now in a new contract, if I am gone from home on TDY all the time, what does it matter? I just think most guys here are looking at more money. I really, really hope I'm wrong.
