I don't know about the flight attendants, but if the pairing is on your schedule when it is cancelled then you get pay protection for the trip and sit a TOA (Time of Availability). Time of Availability is sitting reserve for the original time of the pairing. I have had this happen in three different bases, two big bases and one small one. I have never been used during the time of availability. I have never had to pay claim it either, believe it or not.

 

Happy to hear that the crew gets paid even when something goes wrong and the flight doesn't go.

Their Travel Advisory webpage looks like an operational nightmare. I guess those unanticipated summer temps are taking a toll, along with the everyday maintenance issues. Passenger complaints on the company's facebook page are getting louder. Hopefully you guys can avoid any air rage incidents.

It's terrible for the hundreds of passengers on the flights that went way wrong. But it does work in the favor of the pilots since it strongly proves the points they have been making about lack of proper maintenance, spare parts, adequate number of aircrew, right? At some point won't the bad publicity, plus all the meal vouchers, travel vouchers and refunds handed out to displaced passengers, add up to something that management decides it can't swallow anymore?


They have their bags, must be a new way to board??

For those joining late for this piece of the thread. The captain of this flight is our V.P. of Flt Ops(GB) and his fo is our director of safety(MW). And yes they had the notams in the packet prior to departure.

P.S. - I'm dying to see if any analysts ask about this stuff at the earnings conference call.
