There is absolutely no way that is "great reporting". You need something slightly more concrete.
The incident is still absolutely ridiculous, and by all accounts Allegiant has some serious questions to answer, but that report was far from good journalism...

ABC news too

Looks like the thread here was picked up by Fargo news and is now national.
Now if someone were to contact the national news with a synopsis of other items in this thread, I bet they would start drawing parallels with Valujet's problems.

Okay.... Am I only one who just watched a professional newscast quote an anonymous Internet forum thread as their source???

The reporter did say he contacted AAG and they refused to give any information or details, and/or verify that it actually was the VP of Flt OPS and Safety that were piloting.

After listening to the recording several times and hearing these two individuals speak in person for quite some time, I can tell you with certainty that it indeed was the people who are being mentioned.

When the conversation was taking place they hadn't used up their 45 minutes if gas. So it appears that they were, for some unknown reason, already behind on gas OR they pulled the 'emergency' card to avoid having to land at a divert field. Both potential actions require a serious investigation by the FAA. You can't just declare an emergency, and say you're running out of gas, in order to avoid diverting.
