Hey fellas, I just hit my 3000 hours about a month or so ago, rj fo Texas based looking to step into something different and would love to get some time in the 80. What's the outlook like here and the schedule I understand is mostly locals with baseless first year? Just want a quick overview of what it's like here and is there a possibility of staying in Texas for this gig? Thanks! Droops

When they say AAY is not like other airlines they aren't kidding. I'd say it takes a certain kind of inner strength plus a strong positive outlook to succeed there. Plus an ability to deal with impromptu cockpit issues regularly thrown your way.

Looking at the Allegiant route map shows they operate in 6 Texas cities (AUS, ELP, SAT, LRD, MFE, BRO), plus Shreveport, LA near the eastern border. With that many ops you'd think there would be some chance of being based somewhere in the Lonestar state, but I'll defer to the experts more familiar with things.

Ha! Nope...just that ALL of the new upgrades in my base went junior to me. So, if they're not consistently TDY'd away out from under me, which has calmed-down on the 80 lately, I'm in store for a line of crappy doubles...but still a line & >70 pay!!
And for the upgrades: sadly, CA pay doesn't start 'till your 1st Revenue Flight off IOE. A travesty I hope is addressed in our new contract. It should start at least on completion of your check ride, or better yet, on day one of Upgrade class!

To give a little more substance to this...
The last 5 captain upgrade slots on this latest bid went as PIT CA, the 2 before that went CVG CA... The last guy to get it (subsequently PIT CA) was a 7/7/15 hire... that said, that group isn't slated for training until early July '16, and will probably hit the line around September. You don't get paid CA pay until you pass your check ride, so effectively, you're not really getting the benefits of being a CA until about 1.3 years, and that's the quickest possible.
Long story short, if you wanna upgrade quick here, in the most junior base, you can... people tend to stay in their bases, even as FO's... but expect a less than stellar QOL for a few years until your seniority builds enough to hold a decent schedule in one of the more desirable bases. I've also seen a bunch of TDY'd captains lately (here in PIT) that aren't too happy about it; so that's a possible downside to to a quick upgrade as well.
All subject to rapid change, but that's what's going on at the moment.
