Excerpt from union email today: The Last Line of Defense
“In the span of 29 days. Allegiant Air has experienced three engine failures and/or QRH-directed shutdowns - encompassing all three fleet types. The catastrophic engine failure on the Airbus aircraft occurred at roughly 50’ AGL on the go-around - quite possibly the single most critical moment in any flight regime. Much like having two catastrophic engine failures over a three-day period in the MD-80 fleet at the turn of the year, this statistic is almost beyond belief. This is, of course, in addition to all of the other non-engine related issues that we have been enduring as Allegiant pilots.”

Did Valujet have more than one crash? Just curious because the Everglades crash was not caused by faulty aircraft maintenance.
It was created by mechanics, but not from the airplane itself.
Just curious as to the parallels everyone is jumping on.

Culpability
The NTSB report placed responsibility for the accident on three parties:
SabreTech, for improperly packaging and storing hazardous materials
ValuJet, for not supervising SabreTech
FAA, for not mandating smoke detection and fire suppression systems in cargo holds
Key people
Maurice J. Gallagher, Jr. (CEO & President) Valujet
The Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Atlanta field office sent a memo on February 14, 1996, to Washington, D.C., stating that "consideration should be given to an immediate FAR 121 re-certification of this airline" -

Indeed, lowest bidder contract maintenance, everything on the cheap. Except for lawyers. Lax FAA oversight. Same ceo, same winning formula. No parallel whatsoever.
