Is a merger a good thing?
Sure F9 has a wayyy better contract than we do. But think about it? Probably 12 months of seniority list integration, then maybe some kind of fence before G4 guys can bid DEN -320 or F9 guys can bid PIE -80, then maybe a little bit after that we get they're contract and work rules. Meanwhile, lots of divisive infighting and our upgrade time goes from 1 year to 5 years.
The only good things I can think of would be:
1. A contract, which is at least 12-18 months away. Assuming we get anything good without going on strike. So, unless the union is holding something back, there is no way we're going to get a TA put in front of us is the next couple of days.
2. Another random pay raise, basically a method of bribing us to de-certify (which probably won't work) although hey, more money is more money right?
3. More international routes and maybe some heavy equipment coming on the property?
Thoughts?

Has anyone actually heard anything concrete with regards to a merger, other than what's fresh out of the rumor mill? Frontier pilots hear they are merging with Spirit, Spirit pilots hear they're buying Frontier, and we've heard rumors of merging with both airlines over the past several years. Just rumors. And all of the excitement coming out of the CP's office? Unless it's a contract, I'm not sure what all of the craze is about.
And a merger with F9? Several issues that would be bad for us:
Their pilot group HATES the Teamsters, with a passion. There's still some serious bad-blood after the Republic integration debacle. Yes, the list was reversed, but the damage was done. Don't believe me? Go jumpseat and show up with your Teamster's lanyard. Chances are you'll get an earful. With all of that hate, what better way to break the union than to integrate us with a group that would surely vote the Teamsters out.
Additionally, better contract?? Maybe in some respects. But their pay-rates are (surprisingly) worse and they don't have our sick policy.
These points are all moot anyways. There's been no announcement. And if there is an announcement, chances are that it's just an airplane order with more routes and growth. You know...the kinds of things management thinks will excite us and entice us in to staying.

1. Nobody keep any really big secrets that well. Everyone saw the UsAir/American merger a million miles away. Worst kept secret ever was that merger. No matter what confidentiality agreements are signed, someone will blab.
2. Good news would pimp up the stock price. It is well past opening time for the stock market. There would have been news by now.
3. I think there would have been some hints by management. Again, nobody keeps big secrets that well.
We got trolled big time. There is no point torturing yourself with hypothetical scenarios.

Would it not make more sense for the owners of Frontier to first take the company public (to enrichen themselves) before entertaining any idea of merging with anyone? They're going to want to be paid first don't you think?

Where did you see that? Most of our bases don't have KCM anyway. SIDA is faster and better.
What I really am concerned about is the big announcement of the "Cutest Pet" contest. I can;t wait for that one.

I'm just surprised here that some seem almost excited about a merger announcement.

KCM was actually announced in the latest "Upfront" issue by GB. I think the reasoning is that it gets away from having to deal with and track all of the SIDA badges. If you can issue one badge that will get you past security, I think it's a much smaller hassle. And yes, not too many of our bases are equipped to handle KCM. Hopefully someone actually looked at that when evaluating KCM feasibility
