I don't have any special insight, but the last new hire class drop only had one ORD 320 FO slot and the FO/CA imbalance in the status seems to have been rectified for June's bids. It's going to be a junior-ish status at least until they work through the 737 -> 320 FO withholds, but I don't think you'll be getting it day one unless you're an older guy or girl and there happens to be a vacancy or three pop up - which does often happen right before a vacancy bid. That's more of an accident of timing than anything, though.

If I could do it over, I would have bid 737. It was probably fine to bid 320 when the classes were steady the last few years up until last summer, but now that the classes are more intermittent, 737 new hires definitely have a better QOL in most bases. I have been waiting a year for DFW, could have got it right out of training in the 737. Whenever I compare my schedule to 737 classmates or even junior pilots, it's always a gut punch. Another factor is more senior 737 guys bidding over to the 320 slowing progression even more.

This is a fact at AA, at least for the time being. 2 years in, MIA320, I’m 65%. 737 I’d be 37% here or for example 18% in PHX.
not only that, but bus trips are objectively worse than the 737. Why? Go figure, nobody has given me a valid explanation, but it’s a fact.

My guess is we will stop seeing them because all of the Withhelds that are owed those 320 FO slots will start coming due.

You say that sitting in FiFi. The 73 is junior for a reason and guys senior to you are bumping you down in the 320 also for a reason...

Its all good. Time is your friend. Come to PHL! The flying is great, just expect to wait 20 min at the gate on go-home leg everytime; Philly Special baby! Now, put your coffee back on your tray table and slide your seat back and dream of the 73 guys wanting to do just that

Yes, I would gain about 28% in seniority in DFW if I moved over to the 737 which I’m planning on doing the next vacancy bid.

But what about your tray table and recliner chairs?

All those amenities are worth less when you are flying 3 legs per day 17 days per month while your 737 friend from orientation is flying 1 per day 15 days per month for the same pay.

Now that the airline has figured out how to optimize the trips into unbearable garbage it takes quite a bit of seniority to get the few decent ones that slip though the cracks.

I agree with the tray being worth only so much. Trips are indeed garbage. But I still get the flexibility with my schedule. It’s just the quality of the trips suuuuuck
All the trans cons we were doing in MIA are now 73 trips.
My theory is they need to make the 73 attractive with better trips so that people stay on that fleet.

what bid status/seniority is flying 15 days of 1 leg per day?

I’m 34% and usually fly 16 days that vary between 1223, 32/1, 3213, and very rarely a 1221.

could I fly less days? Yes. Could I hold singles? Absolutely not. Could I not do 3,2/1s (red eye home)? Yes, but then I wouldn’t get the days off and the sign in/out times I want. Which ultimately, to me, are what’s important.

I’m not saying you tallpilot , but I know for some people not doing anything and getting paid for it are the most important thing.
