Each class this year has been approximately 40 people. 5 classes totaling 194 new-hire pilots.
That number does not include the few that have returned from various types of leave.

It's rare or almost impossible now only because there's not many Non Jet PIC people out there anymore. Most Class are Mostly Flow & Military with less then a handful of lucky OTS hires.

Hiring does not seem to be concentrated on one specific background but rather a broad spectrum of experience. You also can't look at a specific indoc class and make a statement because there are too many variables involved like availability, app submission, etc.
My main point to this is if American is you goal then keep working towards it and don't give up. The common hiring theme at all the majors is that they are hiring future captains so do the things to make yourself more marketable. Get a degree, become a CFI, get a type rating, become a check airman, become a recruiter, volunteer and do community service, whatever you can to show them you can be more than just a person with lots of flying time.

One of our ex chiefs in Dallas is now heading up recruiting , and I've flown with him on several occasions(super guy). Most of the wait for people is simply the numbers game. A guy gets called with the same creds as 200 others, and they didn't get called... numbers. Obviously patience is key, and just because one hasn't been called yet doesn't mean you aren't qualified, just that your number hasn't come up yet . Waiting sucks tho... I waited over 2 years to get called back in the day when we were hiring 100 month , which I think we will go to soon.
Good luck everyone. It's a great gig, despite what some espouse on this forum.

Just a heads up, I thought I read somewhere internally, that we'd no longer be taking resumes or giving "credit" if you will, for attending job fairs. It be just a way to get info to potential candidates and answer questions. If that's the case, it'll be a waste of time to wait to talk to AA at a job fair.
I can't remember where I read this though, I'll try to dig it up.
