That's not true. We directly asked the ladies that work in there(Not the receptionist) last summer and they said every other month was good enough. Cut that in half to monthly and I think you are more than fine. What could possibly change from week to week other than hours. They also confirmed that letter of rec are not even looked at until after your face to face interview.
Just passing along what she told me face to face last week when I went in to ask... maybe things have changed since last summer when you were told your info?

Hopefully someone in the know can chime in with more accurate info.

JH said in 2014 when he was still VP of Flight that letters of rec weren't looked at until after f2f interviews, and even then weren't looked at 90% of the time. The only case where they are used is if the board is on the fence about a potential new hire. Then and only then would letters of rec be referenced.

Hopefully they weigh them more heavily now, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the process in 2014 is still the process today.

If you have access to JetNet, there was a post last month detailing the selection process.

"Current American pilots also play a key role at this stage. We know they’re the best, so we offer them the chance to submit personal references. These references add significant value to candidate profiles and are considered early on in the process."
https://newjetnet.aa.com/docs/DOC-20015

So I guess it has changed!

Email followed up by a phone call from a pilot in recruitment a little later.

Fwiw - from what you posted above you look good. But if your pure civ and not from a wholly owned with a flow I think it may be tuff. You're doing everything correct. Keep updating, maybe hit a job fair and find a friend to get an internal rec.

My reason is that they get plenty of 121 PIC guys from the pdt/psa/eagle flows. So to round out the classes they seem to be taking straight mil or regional/guard and a smattering of corp when they hire off the street. This evens out the classes as so many ( not sure what the exact percentages are) have to come from the flow agreements.

Note: I am in no way associated with the hiring process. I'm just a line pilot on the junior piece of equipment so I see a lot of new hires - just my observations as a CA for the past 4 years.

Your age won't hurt. The oldest guy in my class was over 50. Looking at the class photos I'd guess the average age of newhires is 40 something.

In addition to what's been said above, there are thousands and thousands of guys out there with plenty of good flight time to choose from. It's going to be incumbent on you to make yourself stand out against all of those, especially because you are on the older side. Volunteering seems to have been one way to make yourself stand out since we started hiring again. Good luck.
