The "women and minority" thing is just a fairy tale that guys like Riverside tell themselves to explain why they haven't been hired, when the real reason is their toxic attitude. I looked at the last 10 or 20 of his posts, and if I were in HR and knew his real name, I'd scratch him off the list immediately.

You want to get hired? Flood the zone, go to every contact opportunity with your target airlines, get interview prep from ECIC or FAPA (better ... from both!). And get honest feedback about your weaknesses and get to work addressing them. And don't be a glass-is-half-empty whiner.
Let me kmow when he's hired then. Why did you leave out the 29 year old stats? How does it compare to only 4k hours???

And no, there isn't.

Hubble - what was the 29yr old’s resume? At AA, since he came from UA, he checked 121. What was his TT? TPIC? 121 experience? Regional FO? CA?

Lear is 4000 TT, 1500 TPIC, only 91and 135. Several types but perhaps all smaller jets. And perhaps no four year degree.

AA’s OTS is about 50% of all new hires. The OTS is about 75% military. So about 6 per month were pure civilian new hires. Non 121 experience has been 4-8% in some previous published data by the Big 3. So the monthly odds of a civilian applicant with no 121 experience could be less than 1%. 20-50 per year if that data holds true for AA.

Guys need to apply to let the company make the decision to select them but they also need to know the data as best as we can figure out. One guy was flying a small corpoarate jet, single pilot, a couple hundred hours per year, and was wondering if he was in track to get hired. He needs to be told the reality, which probably means making changes, vs continuing on a path that many would think is a dead end track to get hired at a major.

What is disappointing, especially in today’s technology world, is how little information we’re getting about the resumes of new hire classes. Thirty years ago, pre internet, most guys had access to the backgrounds of most new hire classes. Today, with all the technology available, and the ability to crowd source within minutes, the guys on the outside are getting very little data.

Yeah Slice, I took it a little off-topic and didn't answer the time & quals Q. You're right. The 29-year-old I mentioned had flown for Eagle before United, so he had the 121 square double-ticked. I would recommend 121 to Lear75 for sure. Also ... agree with you about lack of good data ... but I think a swing thru ECIC, FAPA, etc for prep and consulting will offset some of that. They tend to have a pretty good grip on what resumes are getting calls/hired.

As a counter-example, a very experienced 28-year-old of my acquaintance, who really wants to get hired by AA, couldn't make himself do the "standard" thing and fly for PSA/Piedmnt/Envoy. Cut in $$ and prestige, I think he felt. He got hired by Southern 2 or 3 years ago and flies 777 FO all over the world. Doesn't like it and I'm not sure he's any closer to getting hired by mainline. So guys need not just to seek advice, but actually take it.

Wrong.

I personally know a Falcon pilot who was hired and is not a minority.

Re: 28 yr old and taking advice. We don’t know the future but past events can help us try to predicate the future as best we can.

We all know guys who’ve made weak, questionable, or flat out bad career decisions. Sometimes it pays off but more often than not it doesn’t. “I don’t want to”, “that’s a pay cut”, “that’s a step backwards” are frequent answers. Talk with the guys senior on the seniority list and that’s frequently the exact opposite of they did. They were more likely similar to the Six Million Dollar Man - stronger, faster, better. If it helped their resume, or improved their odds of getting hired, they did it. Prestige and pay wasn’t a factor.

Hired. 40. 6200 TT. 823 121 TPIC. 5600 121 total. Several job fairs and networking. Made an impression with a recruiter and sought him out every time for three years. Volunteered with my former union for years. Volunteered with outside organizations for years. All while working and having a family. To bust more myths I was hired from a wholly owned carrier (my former co-workers said they don't hire from within... Just wait for the flow). I'm no one special. I just networked and kept at it. Also did interview prep. It was a huge gamble of money. I got lucky. Many of my former co-workers thought like you.

Because you said he had zero percent chance unless the previous poster was a woman or minority. I'm neither and was able to get a job.
