Uh, not so fast sport. Crew skd calls March 31st - we've got a six day trip for you. ****? We've only got 3 day trips. Computer generated trip and "you fly the month you're in" which means the computer ignores your April days off.

The flight office is not heartless and deals can be made BUT they're not guaranteed. And 'the needs of the service take priority'.

Word! All true.

No trading of days off. What you see is what you get.

'G' - Golden days can't be touched ( ie you drop dead at midnight the night before).

M - moveable at the company's choice and not yours.

Non- golden day they can fly you until noon. So the first day off isn't guaranteed off unless it's a G (golden) day.
Thanks slice back- does anyone know how mil leave works at AA?

That said, take probation seriously. If you come across as a FU in the first year it might be ugly. That said almost everyone is a big boy and 'gets it'.

Have guys gotten fired? Absolutely. When you hear why you'll shake your head.

In general you have to work hard to get fired. If anything it's amazing how hard it can be to get fired. Show up, do your job, be a decent coworker, go home. Have a nice, and long, career. It's that simple.

Yes and...Have you seen how many got fired this year? "Terminated employment"

Go browse the member lists for bases. Now some of these were guys furloughed for over a decade and some were flow thru's.

I did know 2 guys that got fired on probation. Neither were FU's.

I cannot OVERSTATE this. Be careful. It is easy to forget that PIC is in charge on the van ride to/from airport. Do not let your guard down. There are some here with Napoleon Complex to the Yang.

Some guys will let you fill out your own probation report, others...Tango Cuiardo.

Funny you mentioned Salute...

Last Wed night midnight 30 they push us back, i'm the FB. They unhook and drive off. The CA called them back to show us the pin and a salute.
15 minutes later they return.

And then they stood there a full minute and a half waving the pin and saluting.

It's every workgroup here.

I went to the C23 pilot ops restroom in DFW 2 years ago. There was stuff written in the mens room which we share with the rampers, on the stall walls by the rampers towards us AArogant Skygods. Lots of bad stuff.

Part of the culture problem at AA stems not just from Centerport but from the cockpit where Captains think they;re still in the Air Force and treat everyone like they're enlisted personnel.

For the new hires and for USAir happy to be here! Please please bring a different culture. Any culture will be appreciated.

We desperately need new blood here.
Sounds like you guys need a Navy style JOPA... call it a FOPA!

And then, of course, to remember the insanity you endured as a JO (FO) when your "the man" in charge and forgo the lobotomy that seems to ensue with the position of power.

It's exactly this:

"Ladies and gentleman, welcome to Florida the stand your ground state. Please keep your seat belt fastened and stay on the airplane as we return to Maracaibo, a much safer place."

sorry.

"L & G please remain seated until the Captain has turned off the seat belt sign. Flight attendants prepare for arrival."

we use to say "and cross check" but not anymore.

I believe FM1 or somewhere in the procedures requires AA FOs to make the an announcement pulling into the gate. I believe it's "Ladies and gentlemen, please remain seated until the Captain has turn off the seat belt sign. Flight Attendants, prepare for arrival and crosscheck."

From what I've seen in the back, the people hear, "Everyone take off your seat belt and start to stand up."
