There is thick irony in your continued labeling of those of us who are on the LAA as AArogant. Look in the mirror. I suppose the only thing that'll make you happy is if we all bow to the all encompassing superiority of everything USAirways, because if by God we disagree with your superior way of doing things, we must be AArogant.

How about we try to start thinking as one rather than two or three airlines.
I think the main issues are
-our senior pilots seem to have the common interests of the whole pilot group. Yours don't care about anything but themselves.
-our way of flying has been modernized. We feel like we are taking a huge step back in time. You guys feel the same way but don't want to change that.
-our IVR is hands down the best in the industry. Ask a new hire or a senior 330 captain.
We want a few things from our side. Just a few. We have changed everything. We get backlash from a 500' call and napkins in the cockpit!!
I agree. We need to move forward. But.... APA has done nothing to address ANY problems we have on our side. We are gun shy.

Deleted my old post, because I really don't want to lower myself to this level.

Suffice to say, as far as I'm concerned, that we all need to adapt. We all have had changes. Some good. Some terrible.

why deleted? It doesn't bother me and I hope others if you speak up. Not one way of doing something is perfect. Please tell me what YOU find terrible. And I'll promise you that I'll answer in a professional and courteous manner.

You probably read on here how I vented against a certain person who screwed up (and continues to do so) the jumpseat IVR. With all hatred between East & West, that was probably the only thing they agreed on - and liked. And guess what? Now we lost the jumpseater in the basic aircraft weight, thanks to the dysfunction APA brought along (not invented here, gotta move to base, son, etc etc.)

I am getting so tired of this over-inflated prima donna attitude. "We are superior". In what? We get paid to move expensive equipment from A to B in a certain way the company demands. Period. We have zero say in what routes get axed, or added to our network. Zero say in hiring or furloughs. It is just a huge bubble created by the company and union to make us feel important.

It is time for us to burst that bubble and stick together. But looking at previous mergers (or C&R), we are doomed to fail (again).

I have a lot of respect for that person that wrote this email.

ALPA will solve nothing here, only add to each pilots cost. ALPA is a grotesquely bloated band of fatcats looking to fluff their coffers to keep their financial engine running. The problems here are too systemic. Parker knows exactly what buttons to push here and will push them in 2019/2020 ALPA or not. The most critical statement of the VP's letter to the pilots is the fact the opportunity for self-help is virtually zero, thus this pilot group's odds of true change is virtually zero.

We are bankrupt of leverage and completely predictable and thus can and will be knocked over with a feather. It's this pilot groups destiny.

I thought it was a good email. I think the discussion has to be made. The focus by the APA has been on pay rates and pensions at the expense of quality of life issues. Having the resources of ALPA would be an asset when it comes time to negotiate.

I'd like to see the regionals spun off into their own Union. There is a conflict of interest. But that is outweighed by the need to stand unified with other pilot groups. Having most mainline pilots being represented by one union would be a good thing. And we would have the leverage to make some reforms in the way ALPA does business.

I'm not sure why people are getting worked up by changes due to the merger. I shake my head at the new way I fly the 757 but I do it anyway. It's different, it's cumbersome but it's now what I'm used to. It's not that big a deal. Airbus guys aren't even seeing much changes. Be happy with that, and be glad your fleet procedures were not predicated on the basis of a mechanical checklist. (Which I haven't seen). There are things to be learned from both sides. I saw that over the last 10 years. The bad stuff we can lobby to get changed. We have a better chance at changing things this time.

Devil's advocate here. There are some things at AA and the APA that I don't like. Everything seems to take a few more steps to complete. That said, had you been on the outside looking in at the LUS group and USAPA, would you have run to them asking for advice? I think not.

Let's stick with the APA and try to make it our union.

I said to self several months ago I would lurk but not post. Well I'll have to break my "silence" if only to say JUST WHAT YOU SAID. The "seniority issue" has broken the back of pilot labor throughout the industry and the way I see it come 2020 you'll take what you're given or leave. Go on strike (or try to) and see what happens. I don't know (and I don't care really) what the "VP" letter contains. It's no secret to the Company because they already know (and have access to the APA info behind the scenes anyway) so YOUR cards have been PLAYED.

I love this Company, I love my job and I'm doing it as long as they'll have me. After ALPA, USAPA and AOL.....with "pilot" friends like that what good is unity.

Have a great career. I know I am!!!
