Plan for the 4 months at $1600, the good thing is, with per diem first 3 months is effectively more like $4500/month (large part of the per diem is tax free).
Bring a car, buy groceries, cook your own food just like you would at home. It's not that expensive to live in the complex for 3 months. Unless you want it to be.
And plan ahead if you can. If (and its a big if, but who thinks COVID is going away anytime soon?) our COVID pay keeps on going for China, you'll catch up on the pay within the first few months on the line.
why are they not hiring much into the fleet right now? From lack of applications or by choice?

Plenty of qualified people getting TBNTs, or not getting called at all. Clearly they are not desperate.

Don’t try to upsell the sh!t sandwich by telling people what they will get “effectively” due to per diem being non taxable. If you’re going to give numbers, give real numbers.

Per diem is $2.75/hr CONUS. That puts it at $66/day or $1980 for a 30 day month. I believe the current government cap is $66/day for non taxable M&IE, so that should all be non taxable.

The $1600/mo training pay is taxable.

True, there’s no free lunch - well maybe breakfast and a Union sandwich / dinner if that’s still a thing? When you hit the gym fill your water bottle, it only makes sense.
Stay hydrated, stay frosty, it’s Miami after all.

Don’t buy into this per diem number for what you’re getting “paid”. Bring a car? Unless you live in Florida or a connecting state, that’s unrealistic. Hard to cook your own food when you don’t have a stove and only a hot plate that boils water in 20 minutes if you’re lucky. The Residence Inn breakfast program changed in October and now your choice is between gas station quiches or gas station slurry burritos for breakfast or cereal. The Marriott in the compound has a restaurant and cafe but prices for food just went up this month. We’ve been here since October and haven’t seen a full per diem payment yet due to the way it is paid out. December 31 will be the first time we get a full per diem check. Bottom line, plan for paychecks around $580 for 4 months with a bit more at the end of the month for your per diem from previous month.

Wait what? I brought my car in down from Virginia and I know guys who brought their cars I from farther distances… I don’t buy the unrealistic part. That’s on you for choosing not to bring a car. Training pay is 1600 per month plus 24/7 per diem at the domestic 2.50/hr rate. Your first check and each check on the 15th will be low. But the end of the month check will have the per diem included. Might want to get a hold of pay roll if you haven’t seen a lick of per diem yet….

As far as cooking, I managed to get groceries and cook with that hot plate just perfectly fine.

There's grocery delivery services for those of you without a car too. Oh and there's a grocery store within walking distance, not Publix quality but good enough. Worth the walk if you get up before the heat hits.

Thank you to Atlas Shrugged for the clear and detailed answer about the OCONUS commute. I will make it work if I am fortunate enough to get the job.

On another note, has anyone had trouble with the application wizard? The Pre-Application Questioner gives me fail messages for not selecting every possible aircraft. I tried both on Edge and Chrome, with and without a VPN. I am stumped.

Default Interview updates?

Hi folks,
I had my interview on the 30th and thought it went well.
It's been two weeks and I haven't heard back. I reached out to the recruiter after 10 days and didn't get a response.
Is that normal?
Anyone else interviewed late November and haven't heard back?
