Your pay rates are correct. There are, like most plans, an "in network" and "out of network" rate. The family rate in network is 114 a month and out of network 310. Plus dental and vision will run you another 15 a month each. Insurance kicks in after three full months of employment so if your class starts the 5th, call it four months. Skype works in most places, you may need a work around the UAE phone company/government.

A lot of guys have international data plans that are good for checking email, and sending/receiving text messages to wife/girlfriend/kids, etc.

Also very useful is the Apple Airport Express which gives you the capability to plug in a cable internet and make yourself a wifi in your layover hotel...can also sync your iphone or ipod touch.

Skype is the best for calling home, etc.

The airport experss is key. You can also charg off of the built in USB port. It's an all in one apple support station. And its only slightly larger than a deck of cards.

Thanks for these replies so far-very informative. Sounds like staying connected is not a problem. Is there talk of Jan/Feb classes (I believe the last one was early December)?
