Right now, the new hire have been placed mostly in ANC, and CVG on the 747. The last several classes on the 767 have all been placed in CVG.

Some of the 747 new hires have been able to bid out of ANC to CVG and HSV by the time they finish simulators and before OE.

As 744 said, most likely you'll get CVG or ANC. I've been here a little over 1.5 years, and I could only (theoretically) hold JFK or MIA on the 747 on the most recent bid, within one or two guys from the bottom. LAX got smaller and I lost ground in HSV.

But really, what does it matter? With the exception of bidding out of ANC to avoid a long commute, you'd be better off bidding the most junior base (CVG) to maximize you bidding power.

Appreciate the info--CVG is a much easier commute for my situation. Now back to studying for the online test.

Sure there is. Yes, the company buys you a ticket, but if you do not live in your base, it is still commuting. For the poster asking the question, it is likely much easier to get to CVG than to ANC.

What I meant was, if the patterns rarely start/end in base, living near one can be a non-issue.

Thanks--I have read the majority of the thread over the past few months so understand the nuances of gateway/domicile but without seeing actual bid lines it's hard to picture how a typical month works out. I was just hoping to catch flights out of KWRI at some point if I got hired. The info provided helps. I have flown on Atlas several times and have spoken with back and front end crews. I probably flew on the 747s when they with JAL as well.

While you may think you have a handle on gateway travel you are missing the big picture about how we bid and where trips start. The bases for most new (ANC/CVG/HSV) guys/gals have trips that usually start/end in base and none of the WRI flight go to those locations, so you will have to use gateway travel. JFK is a much more sr base and still only has a few WRI lines. I expect those will be reduced as we drawdown in AFG. The big benefit of JFK is very few trips start there so it's usually a commercial somewhere to start the pattern.

Either way, most patterns will begin with a commercial flight or two (nothing direct to HSV)

Emails are going out for the April interviewees.
No classes planned this summer.
Calls are going out for phone screenings as well.
