Ok, I get that, but those of us that are here should be motivated to improve things in the next CBA...it has nothing to do with the young pups that are here now, and want to leave.
First, I'm not so sure how many actually want to leave, and how many will get an opportunity to leave...It's not that easy these days to get on at a legacy (even if you don't mind sitting reserve in LGA, or other some such garden spot, hoping to fly a line one day on their MD88, etc)...
Second, even the ones that do end up leaving are motivated to improve things...and some of us that have been here a long time are actually the ones not doing our parts in supporting the CBA, reporting problems to the union, etc.
Solidarity and support of your fellow pilot is the only way to a better CBA next time around...right?

First is to consider that guys with 20 years in this operation might understand a few things and are not brain damaged.
Second is to be sure that we are taking the red pill in the morning and not the blue pill. Reality matters.

Gotta run, but...
The loudest ones are the ones who are the least happy. I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't weighing the pros and cons of moving to a Legacy, but I'm 30 and currently have no focused intention of leaving. I've worked for a bottom-feeder ACMI that was known to be a meat grinder in terms of attrition, and frankly, Atlas isn't anywhere near that level, imperfections and all.

Nice rant. cricket.........cricket...........cricket. Here's the deal. The young CRJ guys that got hired during the last 3 years will be dropping Atlas like a hot potato waiting for their opportunity to go to a legacy. Than all of us old freight cargo dogs who want nothing to do with domestic passenger movement can move up. Period.
Not so black and white, is it?

Lots of good points here, guys, and remember it makes no difference if you actually want to go elsewhere...right now, you are here, and we all need to work together to make things (even) better.
Good luck to those looking to Atlas for a stopover or as a destination...it is a good gig, and right now, what are the alternatives?!!

Any furloughs announced? The Military announced Monday that they would be carrying most of there own cargo. World just announced a fleet reduction. BF at Atlas was also present at the AMC meetings. Atlas is taking a hit as well.

From the outside looking in, no job is ever perfect for everyone involved. Ive been through the grinder and had a decent time with it, some segments of the industry are struggling to "get it right" now and the phase will pass. Hope to one day soon be part of the team

I jumpseated with Delta a few weeks ago on a personal trip. Great guys. On the way home a jumpseat captain took an extra fight attendant seat in the back so I could ride up front. Otherwise I would have had to wait for the next flight. Along the way we discussed some atlas vs delta stuff. Hiring at delta - yes they expect it to be in full swing soon. Money - check. Family travel -check. These many be things some are looking for. But the grind of 3-5 legs per day and having many short trips in one month vs 1/2 longer ones makes for a tall order. Combining the multiple short trips with commuting makes for a difficult schedule. On one flight we discussed commuting via Jumpseat. Neither pilot knew we don't rely on the Jumpseat for commuting or a crash pad. One thing I found interesting in our discussion of international travel was how long it can take to be an FO on an international line, let alone a capt flying international. Maybe now with retirements occurring it will become a shorter timeframe than in previous years. But I will say that I now notice the age of the legacy crews in various hotels. I would not be able to fly to the places we fly as a noobie at a legacy. The capt on my 737 flight who is fairly senior said if he took the 717 as a capt he would be number 1 but didn't want the 30% paycut and lack of international opportinities. I imagine the majority of the new hires will be on the 717s. I'm 43 now and really enjoy the type of flying we do here. Thank you to all those folks working hard to make Atlas even better. I've been very satisfied with my short time here and have no intention of leaving. Sometimes we think the grass is greener on the other side the fence just because it's something new and exciting. But I think in a few years if folks do leave, they'll find themselves wishing they'd stayed. At least that's what my magic eight ball is says.

I think the biggest problem i've seen from those who've been here a while is that Atlas MGT and us as a pilot group believe we don't derserve better. Its as if we are some sort of bottom feeder and deserve second rate pay and work rules as compared to larger cargo outfits (fx ups, legacies).... No surprise we negotiated exactly that! I was at a regional with far better solidarity to include flying the contract! CA's here need to be the rule not the exception to knowing the contract, instead its the FO"s educating the CA's, WTH is that! The places we go, the outside of the box type of things crews especially CA's are expected to perform to get the goods delivered....why are we not asking for more from what we bring to a more than profitable operation...this company makes $5 annually per share of available stock (more than FX/UPS)....Jetblue CEO interview on Bloomberg said they are happy to make $5 per ticket sold!!!!!
this place seems at times like my 6 yr old says to her 4 yr old sister..."u get what u get and don't pitch a fit"....works great for kids but here!?!? We need to get our head out of the sand...Time to nut/titty up and have some pride...it starts at the top and doesn't involve selling ourselves short any longer.
