Fatboy,
In this industry, the accepted norm is to take the first job offered. By your post, I'll assume that you had a bunch of simultaneous offers and that you choose wisely. Most of the rest of us took what came along. I know I did, and when I went to UPS it took me exactly 2 hours to determine that I'd made a mistake. I think it was the hour-long briefing from the guy in Loss Prevention, telling us what they'd do to us if we were caught stealing, that made me have immediate second thoughts. Not that I planned to steal anything, but it was just that I had always considered myself a professional, and as such, should have been treated that way. That first day, during the first break, I remember calling my previous employer and asking if I could come back to work. Of course the answer was "NO", and so I stuck it out for a year, being miserable and hating the place. Thankfully I received a job offer from FedEx, but that was about 3 months after I had left UPS. You see, sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. It had nothing to do with the crew force, which I thought were just great, but everything to do with how the company treated us.

(ok, changed somewhat
)Let it go man...
By the way, never seen a Loss Prevention briefing but I'm sure that was the standard thing in the era of bi-planes and tri-motors... LOL

AV8er,
Just because you were fortunate enough to have not had to sit through that presentation, doesn't mean that UPS didn't give it. It just shows your "newness" to that company. Here's what another of your guys said. Just so you can be clear. Crystal.

The " have you stolen anything or did you lie on your application" drill the first day from loss prevention. The funniest thing is the guy who used to give that lecture from loss prevention was fired for stealing from the company. I am surprised we didn't have a party the day he was escorted off the property. A lot of the bottom rung high school graduates in management from the ground side are lucky to have a job that pays more than minimum wage.
Sorry you couldn't get past this bunch.

You're correct Jetjock... I never said it didn't happen, I simply missed your UPS war stories, that's all...
I meant to poke a little fun at you but I guess it didn't come out right...

Well, I'm sure eventually we'll see SWAMISTAKE here too followed by GOOGLESUCKS and EXXONBLOWS... The normal business cycle, right?

Its fairly evident from Wannbes posts that he hasn't been around UPS that long. One thing for certain is the company will educate him over time.

This airline is no different than any other airline I've worked for (except that the systems manuals weren't as dumbed down as they are here
). In the past (before UPS), I've done more carpet dances than anyone I know, I've been lied to to my face by other employees without any repercussions to them, accused of flying a damaged airplane when it really turned out to be the ground crew driving a loader into it, I can go on and on. I've gotten over all of that b.s. I just come to work and do my job. If the flight is late, I just sit back and read my magazine. If some ACP wants to call me and ask why I'm a minute late blocking out, whatever. Is it annoying? Heck ya but I just don't let it get to me like I used to. If some clown wants to come in to my new hire class and threaten that if we steal, we'll get fired, then whatever. It's not like I'm planning on stealing, so I'm not gonna worry about it.

You want to talk about mistakes? Try 13 years at ABX Air (former Airborne Express) and now furloughed forever and career over and out! That should help those of you unhappy at UPS and FEDEX appreciate what you have.

We appreciate what we have and most of us think the way DHL gutted and dumped ABX is terrible. We also object to when our respective companies use what was done to you as a club to suppress us. UPS used to have photographs on the wall of a truck with a tree growing up through the bumper of some past competitor who had been larger than UPS that failed over night with the reminder that it could happen to us.
Very sorry about ABX, a good small company for many years, and hope that you find flying or a better career.

Or maybe he just doesn't let things like that bother him?

The ones that are bothered by it that stayed are the ones who have managed to get changes and improvements.
As to the rug dances, there is a reason that those have not been a factor in your life at UPS.
