I have wondered if I made the right decision, but there is no answer until the end. I worked for 2 majors and took a leave to fly corporate before coming here. At the time I came here, the major I was with was in bankruptcy.
I know that sometimes we remember only the good of previous jobs. I realize that when I jumpseat and deal with TSA, gate agents, unhappy flight attendants, etc. Was it really that good? Probably not. Were you unhappy when we were hiring, adding airplanes, growing? This is a down time for everyone. UAL and CO talk about bankruptcy again. Delta lost money. Its not better somewhere else. How many years do you have left in this career? You will be back in SDF eventually. Things will improve. Someone else recommended the "who moved my cheese" and I also think you could use that book.
BTW- I also volunteered in the MOU, and I also couldn't really afford it... but now I have more time off and spend more time with my kids. I couldn't do that anywhere else. I have to live like a monk, but who cares. No boats or planes in my future, but at least I have a GREAT job with GREAT benefits with LOTS of time at home.
Its not that bad. When you get a Mumbai layover, take a walk around. Give up thinking about your last job. It is gone. This is your life; or if you want to do something else, you can. That is the great thing about America.

Great thread. There's a lot of turbulence ahead regardless of the colors on your Boeing, Airbus or MD, but we will get through this.
One question...what's a "Mangler"? Are they management pilots going back to the line?

We also do have some manglers who used to be part of IPA and crossed over into the management - they are no longer part of IPA...
At other airlines you work your way up into those kind of positions... but otherwise we are very big on "promotion form within" - except on the airline side...

Of course, around Christmas all of us always get an invitation to "advance ourselves" into the management ranks...

We also won't hire anyone who has a realitve working here already... A little strange for a company founded by two brothers wouldn't you say?

In 1907 19-year-old Jim Casey founded the American Messenger Company in Seattle, Washington with $100 borrowed from a friend. He served as president, CEO and chairman. Claude Ryan was his partner and his messengers were his brother George and other teenagers. His motto was "best service and lowest rates" Deliveries were made on foot, bicycle, or motorcycle.[1]

Who are the management pilots (ie what roles are they - check airmen...what?). Is any pilot other than a line pilot a mangler? When a line pilot becomes a management pilot, I take it they resign their seniority? But now IPA wants to get ahold of this management pseudo line pilot creature and put them all back on the seniority list?
