Nobody is "demanding" anything. It's your (anyone's) choice to volunteer but don't be shocked if you don't give and someone calls you greedy (esp. since everyone on property makes over 100K). Like one hour of sicktime is going to bankrupt anyone. <rolling my eyes> If one is truly demanding then I would call them a jerk. So, back to the original question.....what do you call it if not greedy?

OK I won't call most greedy. However I will call someone greedy that did not participate at all, is over 60 and just picked up a 40 hour trip out of opentime. It is his contractual right to do so but it is greedy, selfish, or any other adjective you can come up with to describe someone completely out for himself with no thought of others.

Do I think this person is sensitive to the current conditions, no, would I do the same , no. I think that many in their position are defending themselves against those who want to redistribute.

Personally I have always opposed open time and would rather see it built into lines, we tried this and guys complained about the line quality, so the open time was left in the contract. The open time pick up is in the contract, the ability of the union to speak against open time is limited in the contract. We currently have a canidate for the EB who appears willing to give up retirement to keep his job and he is in the group we are trying to protect with the MOU. I can see where this would lead someone close to retirement to grab as much as they can before they go.

That guy has no shot at being elected(watch the video) so what he thinks (other than as a normal IPA member) doesn't matter since he won't be on the board. As a guy junior to him, I disagree with some of what he said anyway. I disagree with this voluntary stuff. We should either succeed or fail as one...if not there's no point of being in a union.

Would it be no one's business if they crossed a picket line. Everyone could/should have given at least 1 hour of sick time to show participation. That 33% of the pilot group could not have been bothered it shows us something about us.

The fact that 67% volunteered to give when there is nothing to mandate that they do says a great deal positive about us. The comparison of crossing a picket isn't valid since for that to occur we as a union would have taken a vote to strike or not cross, as is in our contract.

I think the point that is trying to made is that unions fail when everyone does not stick together. The IPA EB has been working diligently toward putting information out to the membership about our situation. No conspiracy! 67% participation! It should have been better!
Hopefully it will be when the time comes!
I agree that crossing a picket line is a totally different animal
