Nobody is saying that wearing a lanyard is more important than not flying DPs.
But not wearing one appears to your fellow pilots that you are not engaged in the process. If you would rather wear a big sign on your chest that you do not fly Dps, then I guess that would be just as good.
What if a pilot stated that he would quit flying Dps as soon as he saw all pilots wearing his/her lanyards? Just as comical in my opinion.
I'm done preaching. Do whatever you want, I'm sure you will anyway.

Major premise: If you wear a lanyard, you show unity.
Minor Premise: If you do not wear a lanyard, you do not show unity.
Fact: Some pilots who wear lanyards fly DP’s, thus showing disunity.
Fact: Some pilots who do not wear lanyards, do not fly DP’s, thus showing unity.
Conclusion: Wearing a lanyard shows neither unity nor disunity.

Absolutely agree with Triple P. Shut off the cell phone and enjoy some time off until the contract is approved by the 68% that can only vote "yes".

The point is, that as long as our negotiating committee can keep us worried about wearing lanyards, then we are distracted from the real work, which is, among other matters, keeping pilots from flying DP's. The lanyard argument is a red hearing. We should keep our eye on the ball and not let either side of the table distract us from achieving a good contract. Unity is action, not symbols around our necks. The more we focus on the red hearing argument, the more time we waste addressing the actions that will help achieve a good contract (like keeping our fellow pilots from continually screwing us flying DP’s). It's as if the company is the one promoting the lanyard and pin issue. It takes our minds off of the real issues that promote unity, and that make a real difference at the negotiating table. Almost makes me wonder if the negotiating team is trying to tell us not to expect too much.
I think that leaves us plenty of time to look at the real issues...don't ya think?
Personally, I love my ID PAK lanyard...but I swapped it out for the ALPA one. Get on board...this stuff is too easy to not do it.

I agree with PPP, but I will still be wearing my ALPA lanyard until we ratify the next CBA (even though I don't like it beacuse of its elasticity and because my ID always seems to be facing in). Since our union has asked us to wear the lanyard and pin, I consider it an easy enough, albeit very small, gesture of unity. Got to start somewhere. We are a union of individuals, and our individual choices matter to all of us. Unfortunately, we might not find unity on the big and more important issues (DP's, etc...). But if we can find unity in something at all, it's better than nothing. Akin to saying (in your back yard) "well, since they are littering a lot, it's ok if I litter a little".
In any event, I hope we unify under this idea: PIBS=NON-STARTER

Gimme a break. What matters is staying involved and abreast of current negotiations.
