Since there are so many anti Omni people who post, quick question for the naive. What ACMI carriers are better than OMNI that are out there?

ATLAS? (everything that glitters isn't gold)
Falcon Air Express? (Orange Air?)
Miami Air International? (min of 3 year commitment)
Sky King? (or whatever their new name is)
Eastern Airlines?
Xtra Airways?
Vision?
Kalitta?
World Airways?
North American?
Ryan International?
National Airlines?
ATI?
Southern?
Sun Country?
Dynamic Airways?

All the above listed are good for old guys who are looking to finish out their careers. These supplemental carriers get a combination both super qualified, high time heavy jet guys and young guys with domestic RJ type backgrounds. I still suggest that young guys who have all the required prerequisites should avoid these and shoot for a major...It's really a no brainer to me.

I left Omni for Atlas 3 years ago and it's night and day. I heard all the "lateral move" stuff before I left too, but I assure you it wasn't a lateral move. We have our issues, but nothing like Omni issues.

We have a ways to go to get up to industry standard with our contract (openers begin in a few months), but our pilot group is ready to fight for it. The Stockholm Syndrome folks are few and far between; if you guys want to better your position, you have to stop defending Omni and start unifying.

Unity is only as good as the leadership which heads the collective mass. With that said, Alpa is far from perfect but Teamsters needs to stick to trucking and warehousing. Lack of effective communication is the biggest barrier to unification amongst the masses. On the few Alpa contracts I've had the chance to vote on or give input in, there were no shortage of conference calls or newsblast. Unless something changes in the near future the lack of communication from the union to its membership will be the demise of a decent contract.

Once again, I'm naive so my opinions really don't mean much.

I've never heard anything good about the airline division from rank and file members. Except that they're VERY good at collecting dues.

Honestly, I don't think a swap to ALPA is going to help you guys any. What Omni desperately needs is a unified pilot group that supports a strong EXCO. Right now, as far as I'm aware, Omni has neither. The EXCO can do what they can to rally you guys, but without you guys getting mad, flying the CBA, and electing an EXCO that's ready to get down to business, nothing will change. Leadership needs the support of the group; the group can't sit back and expect that paying dues is all that's required for a better CBA.

I absolutely wish you guys the best of luck, but you need to unify. The Teamsters aren't perfect, but it's what you have, and sitting back wishing you had ALPA won't do anything for anyone.

I agree with NightIP, thinking ALPA is going to get you farther along towards a good contract then Teamsters shows a lack of understanding of how the Union works. Your only as good as the people in the Union and your leaders.

ALPA and Teamsters merely supply tools and support, that's all.
