It is enforceable, it has been enforced successfully, CPZ would and already has. You're career progression isn't the concern of your current employer–they're not your guidance counselor. It's a contract, and contracts are enforceable. If you need proof, reference some of the high profile cases involving musicians, actors, and pro athletes.

Having said that, regionals know they're a stepping stone, and that their pilots will move on someday, but not inside of a year.

I don't know any of the legality of these training contracts but I've been told they are actually illegal. And the document we sign does not include a promissory note. And that CPZ has NOT enforced the training contract individuals who have left in the first year.

Just things I've heard. I'm no lawyer.

I've heard the same rumors about them being illegal...from pilots. From lawyers, I've heard they are legal and enforceable.

It may vary from state to state...]

Biggest thing is, will a company choose to pursue, enforce & collect on a training contract from a regional pilot who has most likely no savings & a ton of debt....

Is it wise for a business to spend $20k on a $25k contract & recover maybe $5k to $10k...?? depends, if you ticked off your DO real bad...

But the real damage which a company can do is on the prev employer verif form. They could mark NO on the question "Eligible for Re-Hire" and that in itself will be a big NO-NO at most majors...

FedEx, Delta, Express Jet, and Compass all use the same test. They all have different pass scores with the exception of Compass and Delta––their pass scores are identical.
