Paying out of pocket for a hotel during training definitely sucks along with an LAX base, but all in all it appears to be a small price to pay with better long term options and a quick upgrade in a highly desirable typed plane.

I'm not too sure this is accurate. The recent reallignments had DTW downsize a bit and with MSP FOs bidding DTW to get hotels and per diem during upgrade, it would be difficult to predict an accurate timeframe in which a new hire could hold DTW.
