Turns out the 2017-2018 flu season in the US was the worst with regards to deaths in the last decade: It was responsible for 61,000+ deaths in the US. Damn, thats a lot! But, I suspect it's beyond your mental capacity to recognize that 61,000 figure was attained over an entire flu season, with no one really giving an F about it and going about their daily lives.

Now, COVID has only disposed of 45,000+ people in the US. But, think really hard about this: That figure was reached inside of 60 days with the majority of the American population put on high alert using a combination of government lockdown mandates, social distancing efforts and shuttered businesses.

You tell me which "flu" is more of a threat...buddy

I'm not comparing a year to a month. The average flu season is 16 weeks long. 112 days. Nearly all of those flu deaths will occur during that time frame. The earliest COVID 19 death in the US is now estimated at Feb 7 per the CDC; 74 days ago. If the six states that are exceeding their previous flu deaths were at the same average COVID19 ratio as the remaining forty-four states, the national death toll would be around 24,000 today, well in line with a moderate flu season over the same span of time as a typical flu season. Obviously local factors are vital to identifying and mitigating problem areas and there is something very significant about the NYC area and outlying areas from NYC.
